View Full Version : Conning Tower Upgrade

First patrol finished on the USS Grampus and suddenly the game surprised me with a new "half-cut" conning tower at January '42. It usually just gives me new boats, must have been running out of treats.:D
Yey, now I can manually aim the AA up in the sky and actually see where I'm firing instead of a wall of pixelated metal filling the screen!:smug:
Very fast I came to the conclussion that I'll let the crew handle that station as I wasn't able to plug anything from the skies. I promise, the holes in the boat are not my fault! :nope:
But with new equipment come new lessons.:rotfl:

Since I only had 37k of tonnage to report, I'm guessing it wasn't the reason for the upgrade. On my return to the base, I didn't bother with hiding during the day (I know, big mistake) and let the AA gun have a word with the planes, as it hadn't had any work prior. A couple planes and an empty AA gun later, I had to start hiding, but the additional mileage gained makes that a Mission Accomplished in my book.

Now, I'm guessing the AA action was what netted the subs new "hair cut", as up until now i always had to admire the metal siding while manually handling the AA gun. I'd be happy for conformation of my guesswork and/or further information on upgrades.

The boats got their low cut tower to not be so visible. Can't think of the clases involved, Gato was one, I think and Tambor maybe? Nothing to do with your performance. Also some got new paint as well for better camo. Depending on where they deployed this ranged from black to blue with several shades of grey used on others. I don't think the game uses this too much, an upgrade to blue I think is in it.

Bingo! These were mods to cut down the silhouette, reducing the chance of being spotted from the surface. They cut the periscope sheers plating off as well as the weatherboard.

So these upgrades come flowing in over time themselves or attached to a new boat..:hmm:
Well, there go my hopes of having done well.
Thanks, nonetheless.

Actually 37k tons would make you a hero in the war. You'd get steaks and everything!

ah, I didn't see the 'k' in 37k and was wondering how sinking a lifeboat got you such rewards........

Unless it was an admiral's lifeboat. :)

Unless it was an admiral's lifeboat. :)

In that case He'd find himself locked in the Yeoman's quarters with food and water until we got back to port and he could be properly water-boarded :D

Well, as the war progresses, you will get upgrades to your Tower, good scoring patrols or not.
around early '43 you will see your tower get the fore and aft AA guns.
