having just seen Silverleaf's post of 13th December 'warm hello and kind thankyou', I am consumed - consumed I tell you - with jealousy because what is being described there does not match with any of my experiences in GWX 2

I want to see leaves floating on the water!

I want to see wrecks lying on the seafloor! (apart from the ones I put there in the current patrol that is)

Hmph... clearly something is wrong.

I could look with suspicion at my graphics cards I suppose in regard to fine detail. Despite having two Geforce 7600 cards bridged, with SLI enabled, and nHancer tweaks, I am not entirely happy with the results, especially at night, when the clouds appear like flat blobs of thin colour painted on the background.

In the day when under water the screen clearly shows objects such as the sub itself or the anti-sub nets and walls of harbours, but the water otherwise appears as horizontal bands of murky colour. The sea bottom is even with flat patches of colour here and there, meant to be seaweed I suppose. I can live with unadorned seabed as a necessary limitation of the game - but I would like to see through the water!

Grumble, grumble..

Maybe it is because I do not have SH3Commander installed?

To correct that, I have downloaded the latest version and have parked it in its own folder in the game folder - is that where it should be?

I have had it before - long back, and cannot remember if I can run it from within a career or have to start again with a new career - which I am willing to do.

Or do I actually have to start RIGHT back at the beginning, with SH3 vanilla and just the patch?

Or is it simply that I do not have the right mods installed? At present all I have is Das Boot, Lifeboat and Debris and..um, oh yes, the alternate splash screen you see when you start the game.

Maybe I should run Memtest....

sulk.:nope:

I am with you She-Wolf.

I have a gameing machine (Alienware) with a heavy duty
graphics card and I havn't seen any of that.

His posting was very eloquent and well done. My graphic
card did pick that up.

When I see your avitar I think of your lost friend.

Best of Holiday wishes.

I can tell you, there' no leafs floating in the water. I think he mistook the rippled reflection of the ground on the water as "leafs floating in the shoreline".

ah, Laufen, yes, Maisie my avatar - like bits of me are missing it is. I have her pic on my desktop and talk to her... people who haven't enjoyed the fellowship of a furry friend might think that 'sad', but - well, many will understand.

So you have not seen the leaves or the wrecks either - well, that makes me feel a bit better. However, if it's out there, I want to see it too! I shall try SH3Commander when I have a few minutes to spare, see if that helps :)

OH! Dowly - really? No leaves?... mmm, yes, I can see how one might make that mistake. Well, that's one down...

Atleast I havent seen any. ;)

As for the wrecks, the last time I played SHIII (I think that was GWX2.0), the ship wrecks did sink to the bottom and stayed there for a minute or so before disappearing.

Dont know if the GWX team added barrage ships to the training mission. But the normal sunken ships usually disappear pretty quickly.

Lol, just trying to be of help. :D

One more thing that came to my mind about the normal ships sinking to bottom (not 100% sure about this, just somehow I recall this happening). At times, the ship might get kind of stuck to a slightly 'wrong' angle, making it constantly move very slightly on the bottom, thus making the game believe that the ship hasnt reached the bottom yet (or the depth limit the game has when a submarine/ship disappears when it reaches it, i think it's 500m or so.), so the ship is laying in the bottom longer than usual. Tho, in this case, you should hear creaking sounds as the ship constantly scratches the bottom as it slightly moves. :hmm:

Ships that sink in water less than 30m will remain rendered.

That's another one down

so then, if I keep me eyes peeled, I could see them... hmmm, and I suppose, if I were not paying attention, I could also bump into them with unhappy results... oo-er...

Greetings,

I just saw this thread, having been involved in GWX goodness for the last 10 hours.

I do need to clear up the issue of the "leaves". I now believe what I'm seeing that floats on the surface near shores - and further out from time to time is kelp or seaweed ground up when caught by a passing ship's props.

I normally see it in channels and sometimes in harbors but not on a continuous basis.

I've even went as far as to do some coastal navigation and found it again in a few places, normally in a fellow ships wake, and near shore. Unless someone has a better answer, I'm sticking with kelp/seaweed. :)

As to wrecks on the seafloor, I was in water at 25 meter's depth, so the screen shot posted by jimbuna - especially the ship on the left in the foreground looks eerily similar. If I can find it again, I'll post a screenshot. 8)

Thank you for the compliment about my review.

Cheers,

R.S.
