Having just rebuilt my new machine and reloaded SHIII & GW2.1, I added Community Units to the mods I use.

Starting my new career, War just been going for a week, I've come across Two ships both loaded for bear!

They were carrying more weaponry than a Victory ship, probably more than Tirpitz!

Were they supposed to be running in 1943/5? If so, any chance of having, say, three community ship mods for early, middle and late war???

After all, I know I don't last the war out, but I'd like to last the first month!

I agree...

The fact that the community ships is not exactly a mod, but a gather of ships produced by guys like Vondos and Iambecomelife. And those guys usually produce ships with guns.

But you're right, all ships with guns in 1939 and 1940 is very unrealistic, making the use of the deckgun useless in the entire war.

I think (not sure) that the guns can be deleted in the .sim file of each ship, or configured to appear on later years... give a look at that! :up:

The dates the guns appear are cntrolled using the Eqp file in each ships Sea folder

Example

NKMCS_Zinbu

[Equipment 1]
NodeName=M01
LinkName=3InchSingle
StartDate=19380101
EndDate=19451231

[Equipment 2]
NodeName=M02
LinkName=3InchSingle
StartDate=19380101
EndDate=19451231

[Equipment 3]
NodeName=A01
LinkName=20mmGBSingle
StartDate=19380101
EndDate=19451231

[Equipment 4]
NodeName=A02
LinkName=20mmGBSingle
StartDate=19380101
EndDate=19451231

[Equipment 5]
NodeName=A03
LinkName=NULL
StartDate=19380101
EndDate=19451231

Its not unrealistic for ships to be armed from the get go
Obviously not all

But you can alter the eqps to suit yourself
Personally I like some being armed
Makes surface attacks interesting at times

Quite a few ships were armed within weeks of the commencement of hostilities......remnants from WWI initially, then newer models as the production lines got into full production.

Philipp Thomsen & BigBoyWooly - Thanks for the info, I'll check out the files and see if I can make it less hairy for me.

Yes, fitted with a second-hand 3 inch on the stern from, say, 1910 is one thing but 3 or 5 inch guns fore and aft with four or more bofors and assorted machine guns on each side is beyond a joke! Any one would think there was a war on!

Luckily for you they still can't submerged and go after you under water. So beneath the waves, you are still the one and only. As good as I am with the deck gun (I am sure so are you), there are times when you should just let your torpedoes do the work.
