At 0615hrs, the FBI took our illustrious gub'na and his chief of staff into custody on some rather, nasty allegations:

Blagojevich and Harris were accused of a wide-ranging criminal conspiracy (http://www.chicagotribune.com/media/acrobat/2008-12/43789434.pdf) that included Blagojevich conspiring to sell or trade the Senate seat left vacant by President-elect Barack Obama in exchange for financial benefits for the governor and his wife. The governor was also accused of obtaining campaign contributions in exchange for other official actions.

I know, I will be nice and not mention where our president elect is from....:rotfl:

I'll be live blogging tonight from Lake Geneva WI, doing a couple of days in god's country. Will be trying to teach my little one to ice skate. Any other news that I do not catch please post. Will be doing the RL thing and such. We will be going to the Jelly Belly factory in Pleasant Prairie WI so my tummy should be a mess by 1500hrs. If you hear that Jake Peavy is a cub, again post the good news.

It's always the woman's fault ... seems the governor had a little help.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2008/12/09/illinois-lady-prominent-fbi-affidavit-charging-governor/

Illinois First Lady Patricia Blagojevich is mentioned a number of times in the FBI affidavit accusing her husband and his chief of staff of corruption

Do you think the phone was bugged at the governor's mansion? :yep:

Much of the information authorities collected came from bugs in the governor's campaign office and his home phone, U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said at a press conference Tuesday.

The FBI complaint repeatedly mentions Blagojevich's attempts to win a plum assignment for his wife. On one Nov. 8, 2008, phone call, he discussed the possibility of getting his wife a high-paying job at a Washington or New York firm, or with a union.

GeeTrue: Blago, bucked the trend and pi$$ed off most of Illinois by not moving into the gub'nas manse down in Springfield when he was elected and relected. He's been a comuter executive. Supposedly this crap has been going on since 2002. Not a surprise to yours truely but anything I would post would be considered right wing propaganda. I guess I get the last laugh. Best now is CNN is debating how much of a connection there is between our President-elect & Blago. Should be an interesting year ahead.

BTW, our trip up was a bit dicey, whiteout conditions on rte 50, but we made it fine. I have to say the jelly belly flavor "vomit" is interesting....

Now there is big speculation, the way USA Fitzgerald answered a question near the end of the conference, not verbatim: if offering a U.S. senate for sale is a crime, wouldn't the offering party be just as guilty??? He hemmed and hawed a bit, but acknowledged this as fact and admitted that the investigation is only beginning....

Could be August. I'm not too versed in those type of investigations. If someone offers said amount for a "favor" or such and is caught prior to the actual benefit from becoming reality, is it actually accepting? Not being a arsch or anything. But I will use that wording so we can all stay on the same page.

The interesting name that is being bandied about for the 'pay to play' is a son of a certain local reverand, who likes to rhyme in prime time.

And to the Kevin Smith fan, I wanted to say that originally, but wanted to keep Onkiel Neal off my aft. :D

I'd think that anyone who offered to pay a crooked official in return for a "favor"might open themselves up to a charge of attempted bribery, no?

I call horse manure.... I'm beginning to believe that this would have gone a lot farther up than anyone would want it to go. Our politicos are tied really close together. Graft is the only political party we have in Chicago, C(r)ook county and Illinois. Yes, Ryan was part of the GOP, but the lure of cash was too great for him to be any different. It sickens me to no end. What I'm really scared of is that our new POTUS moves Pat Fitzgerald before he can truely clean this cesspool up.

Just for the record, Blago is still the governor and he can still appoint the senate seat while he is still able to. He will not quit.

More speculation from this amateur pundit, since I'm batting a thousand: look for the man who was arrested at the same time as Blago to turn around and become the USA's #1 witness against the entire Chicago Machine. A lot of people will go down for this one and it would not surprise me is the SCOTUS will have to get involved after all is said and done.

You and me would see it that way, but will the USAO see it that way also? I think that there may be a bit of kindling there because JJ jr's mouth piece confirmed that his client is potential senator #5...... I will hit this up when I hear anything more.

It's a gettin' a bit more interesting..... The soon to be 1st lady was appointed to a board position of TreeHouse Foods, a vendor of Wal-mart, right around the time the soon to be 1st family bought the house in Hyde park. Mind you, she is an attorney by trade, hasn't practiced since 1993. Been on the board of University of Chicago hospital, where her annual salary tripled, after certain funds were obtained by a certain junior senator of Illinois..... and our President-elect has no idea what 'pay for play' is?????? :damn:

Who brought it to the FBI?

Lets give him him a medal. :D

Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune is now speculating that none other than the President-elect's soon to be chief of staff RE. I am not sure right now.

I'll throw out a few things that kind of make ya go 'hmmmm'.....

1. The media has stated that Valerie Jarrett was BHO's choice to succeed him.
BTW Ms. Jarrett is the Chairman of the same board that MO is also
salaried member, University of Chicago Medical Center (Hospital) see prior post.
Another small tidbit, Ms. Jarrett was Mayor Daley's deputy chief of staff who hired a Michelle Robinson to work for the city. Michelle was engaged at the time. Valerie has been on Daley's good side, getting a city paycheck till 2005. I will not rehash her role in BHO's campaign or transition team.

2. Media speculation after BHO's win was that RE would be the logical choice for the vacant senate seat. A Democrat who has a spotless rep in Illinois (sounds like a contradiction, see; hasn't been caught) and can campaign well enough to hold the seat when the election rolled around. Wouldn't happen though because BHO immediately tabbed him to be COS.

My problem with the 1st scenario is this: why would BHO throw his wife's friend/benefactor under the bus. If RE was approached for the purpose of quid pro quo, why not use RE to further the investo igation. Looks better if his camp helped to promote change. Jarrett would come out smelling like a rose.

Another interesting tidbit during yesterdays denial from our President-elect: neither Axlerod nor Emmanuel were at the press briefing.... both are very experienced in handling the media but neither were there to field any questions and flat out deny any wrongdoing... Could of went a long way to nip this in the bud, IF that camp is completely innocent.
