here are my current sub efficiency ratings.

aft torp - 41/100
control room - 42/100
fwd torp - 47/100
fwd deck - 26/100

are these bad ratings, they dont like right so how do i improve them? and what influences visual sightings, is it just conning tower or does control room and fwd deck influence it?

They are rather low.

I don't know how much time you spend with you men at "battlestations" but long runs, sometimes even I forget to cancel the order, leaves them tired.

I assume you are in a career. When i started a career, I had to "hire" a lot of inexperienced men.

It's just my experience, but, I have found out that if possible, having as many Officers, or Chief Petty Officers at the head of each section helps.

Choose the inexperienced men based on "speciality."

For example, in the Aft Torpedo section, I have 9 men. 1 officer, 2 CPO's, and the rest are sailors. All are primarily torpedo specialists. However, their secondary specialties range from maintence, to electical.

I find this works best for me in each section. I have 15 men whose primary specialty is engines in the Engine room. 9 in the control room, 9 in the conning tower, 12 in the fore-torpedo room, and 9 as watch. All with specialties in that area, and secondary specialties that I can rotate out in the Damage control team if needed.

Also, I believe you can have 12 men on the Damage control team. Spread out their specialties to cover Command, sensors, electrical, engines, watch, and guns.

Limit your time to Battlestations to only as long as needed. Avoid long periods with Damage control teams activated also.

The better the rest, the better the crew.

i havent activated damage control or battlestations this patrol so i know that aint the problem. thanks for the info but im curious to what ratings all your departments have?

I'm gonna play mine shortly, and when I do, I'm about at the end of a 48 hr. patrol leg.

If I remember, I'll look at mine and make a note.

I'm currently on mission #11 of my career, and I am patroling off the coast of Honshu (sp?).

1/7/43; 21:21 pm, submerged because I'm being overflown by a couple of HK6 Search planes.

Aft Torpedo Room: 45

Engine Room: 100

Control Room: 68

Conning Tower: 80

Fore Torpedo Room: 63

Watch: 0 (submerged)

Currently on the 3rd watch.

Turning SE to avoid Aircraft.

At 02:48, surface air is clear.

Surfaced.

Radar contact: Small convoy, heading WSW.

Ahead Full.

Contact: 3 merchants: Old Split Freighter; 1680 tons; Modern Split Freighter: 3781 tons; Small tanker; 1742 tons.

I projected a path 5 miles out on their path. Close to within 1800 yards.

Submerge.

Torpedos (only 5 left in fore tubes; 3 are the Mark 14, 2 are the improved) set to 3.5'; Medium speed: torpedos set to run at 4500 yards before dying); open doors on all outter tubes.

Target #1: fired when freighter bearing 350; distance:1680 yards; fired 1 fish, target sunk! 1680 tons!

Target #2: Modern Split freighter; Bearing 340, range: 1680 yards; fired 2 "fish"; target sunk! 3781 tons!

Target #3: Small Tanker: Bearing 336, range: 1742 yards; fired 2 "fish"; Target sunk! 1620 Tons!

Tonnage this patrol thus far: 31,743.

They do seem a little low but I wouldent worry about it much.

The tasks will still get done, it might just take a few more minutes. With a few more medals / promotions things will improve.

In the meantime make do with what you have, seriously I doubt you will notice a real difference.
