I found this funny, but what gives?

I recently finished my first patrol of a new career and made it back to port with 250,000 tons worth of kills. (3 fuso battleships, 2 cruisers, 5 destroyers and a support merchant in 1 convoy) and another 2 european liners with my deck gun.
Anyway after I made it back to port (with only 3 fuel left) my hull was 84% damaged and I got some message about the admiral grunting as he assigned me a new ship. I was also given the option to end my career there or keep going. :arrgh!:

I had started the career in a Tambor class, but I was assigned a Porpise class. :damn: Why give me a lesser ship? Is there a way I can upgrade and get a better one? I got 12,000 renown for the patrol and could not possibly spend it all.
I played with everything on except outside views, so manual targeting, duds etc were all on.

Did you complete your objectives? Once you complete your first one, if you radio back with a status report, you will get another. That will play into promotions more than enormous tonnage.

Yes I radioed back and was told to continue patrol at my discretion. Apparently when I got back to port my ship was too damaged to repair so I was given a new one, but I find it odd that I did not get the same type. I also could not go beyond 75 feet or my hull would start taking damage.

Well after re reading your post I seen that you took a bunch of hull damage. The brass will rap your knuckles for getting your ship shot up. I missed the 84% sentence. That is pretty bad. :p In real life, they would have probably sent you to a desk job :) The reason you get an earlier model is lack of subs. (I am assuming)

i cant be sure but i think the game will give you a lesser boat if you dont take care of the one you had. so better resources went to skippers who took care of them.

The porpoise is not necessarily a lesser boat. You just have to pimp it out with the latest electronics. :up: She will be just as good as any:D

Ummm anyways yes completing objectives will gain you more renown than sinking tonnage.

Nothing wrong with porpise class either as mentioned before just get her fitted out. Remember alot of skippers dident get the boat they wanted in real life either.

Just have fun you will get another boat soon enough... if you dont 'die' first :rock:
