While picking off some fat merchants tonight off the east coast of the UK I managed to sink....(and yes I watched them sink), 3 ships non of which i got credit for. and before you all shout, were they neutral and such things ..NO.....they all flew the RED DUSTER and each one, 2 large mercs and a granville slipped beneath the waves with neither a shout of "shes going down" nor recognition in the skippers log.

So I eventually return to Willers 3 kills short and only a poxy 5 Uboat badges for my crew in acknoledgement....tut

Good point, enough depth for them to sink out of sight and the lifeboats to appear but no red kill marker on the map nor credit on my log.....

I just put it down to

same thing happened to me in my last two patrols. In the last one I potted a merchant in convoy with two and it sank on the spot in a fairly short space of time, and though the sea was quite rough it wasn't mountainous. Never got any credit for that, even though the escorts came looking for me.

Then I downed a merchant in harbour with another two eels, smooth sea, and that vessel died from a broken back. I did get recognised for that, yet the patrol boat ignored me and just kept patrolling. It was quite odd behaviour really. The patrol craft came by at its normal cruising speed, stopped near the stricken ship, then reversed and returned the way it had come, but made no attempt to look for me.

My last torpedo just nicked the stern of an ore carrier which carried on sailing without any signs of distress, so I doubt I could claim that - but all I got for my efforts was renown for the harbour vessel. Hmph.:nope:

The exact same thing happened to me last night - I put an eel into a heavy Merchant out in the North Sea, she struggled on for another 12 hours or so before the crew jumped into lifeboats, but even then she hadn't sunk. I marked her position, ran off on some othe wild goose chase, came back and finished the original off with another eel.
We were in 30+meters of water easily, but I didn't get the credit for it.
Late on that same mission I *did* recieve a kill for sinking a merchant in Hartlepool which was pretty much sitting on the bottom before I torpedoed it.

When you don't get a credit for it and no mark on the map it means the ship has been sunk due weather condition. This function is not very realistic in my opinion as an U-boatcommander would automatically claim it as sunk by him, even if it sunk due the weather.

Hhm - funny!
Happend to me too. No credits for sinking ships - caused by torpedos - not weather!

Started within the last 14 days.

Additionally my lookout fails to report visual contacts from time to time (in perfect conditions!).

Maybe we can track this down.
Did you guys - and girls - update your windows in november?

yes, Mittel,I have updated recently. You think it to do with Windows then?

We had patch Tuesday quite recently I think, plus a special download because Microsoft were spooked about security.

I had a similar problem with a few kills and I say similar because, although there were no red kill markers on the map and no recognition in the captain's log, I got credited them after the patrol in the patrol log and I think I got the renown for those kills too.

You guys think good old Bill is in with the Brits, undermining our atlantic war eh?

I seriously doubt windows updates got anything to do with it. It's got to be something SH3 code or mods interference related.

piri, yes, I agree wit you. MS updates would be aimed at modifying system files, patching exploits and updating office - difficult to see how they could affect actual gameplay.....

Well - the patched patch of patches may cause some trouble...

I don't know, but this could be one thing we have in common. I had to do a complete new SH3 installation, because no save was loading.
I reinstalled all the mods I used before, resulting in the problems described above. But this constellation was without trouble for months...

It would be a hint, if all players with problems installed the latest MS patches.

What do we have in common - apart from visiting this forum?

Edit: good god - from the "Gay Leather Navy Dude" to the "Wild Night in Bangkok Tranny". This can't get worse!

Heh. It's not what you sink but who you know at the Admiralty that will give credit for your efforts for the Vaterland. :|\\
