I got the sulks now... I am sure it has happened to other IID-ers as well, but even so:damn:
I nobbled a medium cargo on my way back from patrol in the Atlantic, and let the little tramp steamer with it go as I wanted to keep my remaining three torps for another cargo, which I would be certain to find on the long trek home - and I did, a large merchant, only it was night and the waves were mountainous, so I only fired one, thinking I could come alongside and have another go when I was a bit closer.
Well, I got a hit amidships but the merchant continued merrily on its way, so I figured I would tag along with it until daylight and then try for another hit.
So, I followed this boat for HOURS, and it showed no sign of distress, just kept ploughing through the waves at a steady six knots.
That was yesterday, real-time, so today I got the game running while I did other things. I checked the ships progress a couple of times, with still some time to go before the sky got light, so then I left my computer to check another computer I am fixing in t'other room, and when I came back to the game a while later, the marker locked onto the merchant had disappeared from the scope, and though Sonar knew there was something unknown out there, no noises. Hmm I sez, and grabbed the legs of a passing albatross to go look for myself as I could see nothing but inky-black through the scope.
Sure 'nuff, there she is, upended in the water and about to take her last dive - and I stayed around until she disappeared beneath the waves.
Whoopee sez I to me - that'll bump me renown up a bit, saved, and came out, only to see that it has not been acknowledged and I still am reckoned only to have sunk the first one. Peeshawww! All that time and effort and I don't get me fair do's!
