:D Hi everyone:D
I'm in late december 1942 ( 23 dec to be correct )

After a couple of successful patrols down the US coast , the "Bdu"
has decided to send me all the way down to Grid "GR52" . It's along trip:-?
Is it worth it to go down to that Grid "GR52" with my IXC/40:o
What can I find there ?

Suggestions anyone:o

A IXC/40 to GR52?

There are only two ways you can reach this grid and return to base:
a) Travel submerged the whole way, excepting time on surface to recharge batteries. This takes ages and ages.
b) Refuel en-route, probably from a U-tanker. That means you need one of the super-mods (NYGM or GWX). Then the journey is not so painful, especially if you travel at 4096x time compression. But don't forget to check availability of the U-tankers for your patrol date first!

What you definitely cannot do is travel on the surface from a Biscay port at optimum (for range) cruising speed in both directions. I've tried in the past, you *barely* do not have the range.

There's no problem with a IXD2, though. You can travel at cruising speed the whole way and back.

This is an excellent mission!
If you値l be lucky enough to pass the equator tonight you値l enjoy
1)Southern Hemisphere sky, such constellation as Southern Cross for example.
In GWX 2.0 I made two patrols down there (grids GR 52, GR 89 in winter and in summer 1942) and according to my experience, if you値l follow exactly the rout Cape town-Freetown (see GWX rout map)
2) you値l meet the biggest ships of the game: old passenger ship about 20 000 BRT, and passenger ship of 45 000 BRT, accompanied by trawlers or destroyers.
3) You値l feel real boredom and real beauty of transoceanic voyage and sudden strikes of enemy attack.

PS. Beware aircrafts in Freetown area and St. Helen island area too. GR area is also patrolled by aircraft (airbases in Cape town, Durban, and Elisabeth town).
Try to explore the route Buenos-Aires Cape town, is should be unprotected. Keep you torpedoes until the South there must be absolutely unprotected and maybe armless ships. (In January-February 1942 I spent all my torpedoes on the way to GR 52, and had nothing to do, but pass a plenty of ships in GR and neighboring grids).

:D Hi there alex Schtolz:D

Thank you for those tips:)
You see , I have got this orders before to patrol area GR52 , but I have never managed to reach this area , because I run into ships and empty my torpedoes long before this Grid:-? And I did it again in the Gibraltar:cool: I ran into 1. "Fleet Tender"
1. "ceramic Ocean Liner "
1. "Large troop ship"in the area "CG88

But this time I hope I will reach the area , "Bdu" has ordered me all the way down to "GR69" . Again:huh:  :dead:
But is a H..of a long trip , bouring . I almost fall to sleep at my pc desk:dead: :dead:

So wish me luck my fellow Kaleuns .
