Can anyone explain what CV, SS etc stand for? I know they're hull classifications but it doesn't make much sense to me.

SS - Ship submersible
CV - Cruiser, ...something
(I can't remember where I read that)
But they aren't really supposed to make sense
CV - Cruiser
C = Cruiser
V = Aircraft
This is also why Navy And Marine Corps Aircraft Squadrons have the V designation.

Yes, but I do remember the V standing for a specific word that links to aviation, can't remember which...
