No posting links ? :-? Modding FSX and FS9 is fully expected, even encouraged by the developers. There is a legal problem with IL-2 because the developers have in legalese that comes with the game that you can't modify any of the files. As long as you aren't posting links to pirated versions of payware mods or hardcode hacks, there is no legal threat to Neal/Subsim.

But of course, I don't make policy here at Subsim.

FS is one of the most heavily "modded" games/sims there are. As long as "modding" does not violate already existing "mod" 's copyrights or ownerships by the authors, there is nothing wrong with it. Just check the (fully legal) file library at AVSIM to see how heavily modded FS is, since years, and you understand why I chuckled at your question a bit.

The situation with IL2 is totally different and does not compare. They set tight legal limits becasue they wanted to prevent compromising the flight models and weapons data, so modding only includes skinning, music and cosmetical stuff, but does not include anything that is potent enoigh to ruin the realism, and the core of the models, that is physics, fm, weapon characteristics, and such stuff that would throw the sim off balance if done incompetently.

for the same reaon - not compromising the relaism of flight models, "Condor" also prohibits modding of floight models and 3D models. Only scenery and skins are allowed for the community to create by themselves. In SBP, also modding of vital characteristics (new models, physics, etc) is not allowed and not aloowed, just cosmetic changes are possible. - I must say it makes perfect sense to me.
