I'll link you to pictures as they turned out quite large for some reason.
Here is the cover: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_JGyMlGQKTSM/SR3U_srPINI/AAAAAAAAARI/T8R1_K3434c/s1600-h/IMG_0563.JPG
the front and back covers are printed on Brown leather textured heavy card card stock and is modeled after what we see in the game.
Here is the Table of Contents: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_JGyMlGQKTSM/SR3U_s8v9fI/AAAAAAAAARQ/R6NtdcskTDU/s1600-h/IMG_0564.JPG
arranged alphabetically A-Z printed front and back on medium card stock of a low contrast light gray color with page numbers for quick reference. The ship types are highlighted in alternating dark gray to make it easier on the eyes to locate page numbers. the book consists of 36 pages of viable target merchants - recognition manual measures 5.5 inches by 8.5 inches and is a little over half inch thick
Pages 26 and 27 of the manual: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_JGyMlGQKTSM/SR3VAJU4dDI/AAAAAAAAARg/5JLd74dCqw4/s1600-h/IMG_0567.JPG
Here we have the Ocean Liner and the Passenger Cargo
I have also made a "target speed booklet" which takes every merchant type in the game which would be considered a realistically viable torpedo target (ie. no fishing boats or elcos etc) and i have calculated the time it would take each boat to traverse the vertical periscope cross hair at common speeds (2,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 knots etc) so all you have to do is
1. start the stopwatch when the bow touches the cross hair (and dont move the sub or scope)
2. stop the stopwatch when the stern touches the cross hair.
3. locate the time under the "traverse time" column and read the adjacent speed
accurate to within a quarter of a knot
pics of the speed booklet to come
