I'm just curious why this window appears everytime I start SH4.

A couple of times I have noticed it going online??? Also, occasionally I get a window opening up spontaneously with this address... http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/forumdisplay.php?f=170
(the Silent Hunter III & IV page). but it doesn't take me there, it's just a blank window with this address. This can't just be happening to me can it? Well can it? Oh Jeez, I knew it, UBI is in bed with the Republithugs. Homeland security is after me... BATTLE STATIONS TORPEDO

It's trying to "Autopatch" as it says. It connects and checks for any new patches is my understanding of it. Just change the icon you use to start the game to SH4.exe instead of Gu.exe. "Secure from Battlestations, man the ice cream machine"

I don't know about the subsim one.

UrgeJust like the name says. If there is a future patch this will auto update your install. I recommend you follow the advise above however and reconfigure your shortcut because if you are running a modded version it will update the modded version, not the stock install.

Disable your mods and update manually because an updated version may not be compatible with the mods. News of any updates travels fast around here so you'll hear about any if there are any.

I installed Sh4 around the beginning of April this year and before I ever played it I patched it to v.1.4 So, are you saying that if you owned it from the git go that it automatically applied patches 1-4? I guess I'll go ahead and change my shortcut but I don't expect that UBI will release any more patches (at least any that you don't have to pay for).

You're right, from what I've read 1.4 is finished however something to think about:

For only $9.95 the SH4 D2D 'U-BOAT MISSIONS ADD-ON' is worth it. Big improvements in the Pacific Theatre US side, 99% of the mods are now based on this 1.5 add-on, all future patches by UBI (if any) will be for the add-on, and - if you like U-Boats they are there too.

Outside the US, I wouldn't think the DVD costs too much....
