Just watched the first episode of this new 6 part series on the BBC iplayer (UK only) see http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00fkx70

Quite interesting viewing and it did mention a couple of naval facts that I was unaware of, for example did you know that the Soviets let the Germans have a Naval supply ship at Basis Nord near Murmansk? As I understand it, the purpose was to supply u-boats. It also mentioned the merchant raider HSK Komet, which with the help of Soviet ice breakers, navigated around the top of Russia to enter the Pacific to sink Allied ships. The next episode is on BBC 2 (except Scotland) at 9pm on 17 November or you can watch it afterwards on the iplayer.

And the impression given in that program was that the posting of that German supply ship to Basis Nord was one of the most miserable and depressing experiences for the German crew aboard that supply ship.

Looking forward to the next 5 episodes in the series. :yep:
