Using toxic agents to extinguish a fire is not a good idea. There are alternative agents available however cost more.

The use of Halon is now banned for new construction, and the use of Freon (formally a common refergerant for air conditioners) is banned... period.

I did not even know freon could be used as an extinguishing agent.

This Sub........"The Nera" I believe. an Akula2 class was built some 16 yrs ago!!! And is now just going through sea trials? God knows how many other systems will fail just from age alone!!!!!!

It was my understanding the sea-trials were the final preparation before leasing the sub to India.
