Hi

I've seen screenshots of night battles in Steel Fury: tanks with their headlights on tactically engaging the enemy.

How historically realistic is this? I know that night battles did occur, but would tanks (or any other vehicle) really tactically advance through terrain with their headlights on "in search of the enemy"!!!?

Seriously, who would want to engage enemy units at night using headlights to illuminate a 30deg cone of area perhaps 30m ahead of them at the expense of pinpointing to virtually every enemy within 1km exactly where they are? It just doesn't make sense and seems like suicide.

Weren't headlights just used for strategic movement along friendly/safe roads?

Headlights on at night in a battlefield scream "Here I am everyone, shoot me!"

I think it was shown as an advertisement of the games capabilities. As I recall from the demo the headlights can be turned on and off from the keypad.

I posted a few screen shots of the T-34 in a night mission from the demo a while back in the screenshot thread... the rear of the T-34 tank has a light for any of your squadron following you. And as Boats stated it can be turned off. By the way there are two demos for SF... one with a daytime setting and the other demo has a night mission you might want to checkout.
