The reason I am wondering is I was talking with my nephew yesterday and he said that when you beat the main storyline you don't get to continue playing. I was quite surprised to hear that. I'm wondering if that is actually the case or if he may have been mistaken? He was playing the Xbox 360 version at a friend's house. I don't have the game so please don't mention any spoilers. I just thought it unusual to not be able to continue playing with your character. If that is the case, then you can't do any uncompleted side missions either?

My understanding is that yes the game has a definite beginning and ending. I think this was to keep with the Fallout tradition and encourage replaying the game (that's why there is a level cap too and you cant max out everything like in Oblivion). If you don't want an ending the simplest solution is to just forget about your character's father. This is what my psychotic gunman is doing (he just finished all the quests in Megaton, then went around and gunned down everyone in town before nuking it).

Or you can wait for a modder to make it freeplay if possible.:hmm:

My game is going slowly lately due to time constraints and that i am playing on the hardest level. Getting killed is easy. So I have not even got lose to completing it yet.

I just got it. It's great. Lots of fun. I enjoy it. Glad I bought it. It makes me happy when I play it.

I heard the you can't play past the end of the main quest also. I'm sure the PC version will get modded to change that. Prolly the first thing to get changed as well.

Gotit today haven't yet gotten round to installing it, to busy with other things on my pc. I brought the special edition comes with 5'' Brotherhood of Steel figurine, Pip Boy Key ring and Mini Strategy Guide & game of course. Plus by buying the special edition im in the draw to win a lifesize Brotherhood of Steel Statue worth over $8000! All from New Zealands www.Mightyape.co.nz (http://www.Mightyape.co.nz) gaming store.

Not at all interested in winning the statue if i did win i would probably try and sell it. :)

Yup, it does end if you complete the main quest. It only took me 3 days to complete the main quest but I stumbled across several of the keys to completing it by accident and it allowed me to finish it way to quickly. I loaded a save just before the end and started to do the mini quests. The game is a lot more enjoyable if you take your time and concentrate on the mine quests and not on the main quest.

If you like Oblivion you'll also like this game. Think of it as Oblivion with guns, lasers and lots of radiation.

Btw, there are mods out that let you play beyond the Level 20 cap. Anyway, to fully enjoy the game, you need to complete those sidequests (they are quite interesting).
