The F/V "Katmai" has sunk off the Aleutian Islands after suffering a steering failure. A Coast Guard helicopter rescued four sailors on 10/23 but it looks like most of the crew has been lost. Five are confirmed dead and two are unaccounted for ATM. The CG's search has been called off - due to the temperatures in Alaskan waters it's not likely that those two men are still alive. :nope:

RIP.

Eternal Father strong to save
Whose arm has bound the restless wave
Who bids the mighty ocean deep
It's own appointed limits keep
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in Peril on the sea

Oh Christ whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word
Who walkest on the foamy deep
And how amidst the storm did sleep
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in Peril on the sea

That's awful. The name kind of sounds familiar. Was that boat on the Discovery Channel ever?

It always is terrible when lives are lost at sea. It is a rough business in those waters, like it is in the autumn on the Great Lakes. Loss of steering in high-seas is a sure way to have the ship founder.
