Finally I can join the club

I'm on my way to the coast US .
I'm stationed at Lorient , and it's May '42 , and i'm gonna
test this famous Grid : " DB98 / DM31:yep:
Yes my fellow Kaleuns I'll really want to see if this is correct:cool:
So I ordered full speed ahead and here we go .
I came to the intrance of the channel , and heading south .
When I was at the " Northwestern corner of Grid DM31 "
the first ship I run into was a "Whalefactory ship " and I was
on the surface , and it was calm sea , so I ordered fire with my
deckgun , and down she goes .:o WOW !! This was a good beginning .
So I was heading up & down the channel and I bagged 101812 tons of
one " bulk freighter " , and rest was "Modern Tankers:o :o
The legend is right , Good God:dead: So now I hope I am a member of the club:smug: :smug:

Indeed, America is Land (or rather Sea) of opportunity. Almost every time I went there in '42 I returned with 100K.

I played SH3 since it came out , and 3 years has gone ,
and it is my first 100.000 ton:nope: :nope: Last time I tryed , I only
bagged 98780 tns :damn: :damn: :cry:

Congratulations.:up: :up: I just retired Oblt. z S. Buttner, RKT, who completed 8 patrols with U-95 (VIIC). His career total was slightly over 181,000 tons: 40 ships - 38 merchants & 2 destroyers. He's been transferred to the 2nd ULD. He may return to frontline duty after I finish a new career in the Med (I need a change of scenery).

When I see posts like this where another kaleun has made it into the ranks of the 100k Patrol Club, it makes me wonder if I'm doing something wrong. :damn:

Compared to the more experienced kaleuns that can manually plot a firing solution in their sleep, I'm still a novice but I'm no slouch, either, and have survived some hairy situations by sheer nerve and out-foxing the hounds hunting me. :arrgh!:

I suppose it may have something to do with BdU keeping me somewhat close to home. I follow orders and patrol my grid, taking on targets of opportunity along the way. Currently, I've been getting assigned to grids around the Irish sea.

Yet, I still have to wonder if there's some method to getting a 100k patrol or is it just plain luck of being in the right place at the right time? :-?

I'll just have to console myself with being a solid kaleun that has managed to bring all of his men home alive for twelve patrols and earning many honors for himself and his men.

Of course, there's no medal equal in weight to bringing a loaded cargo ship to the bottom.

Regardless, my hearty congratulations to you, Kaleun! :D

Same here...but i think its more to be in the right place in the right time, and all so the factor LUCK! :up:

Another factor all so important i only return to my base when i use all my torpedos and amunition from the deck gun, not before! :arrgh!:

No, the most important factor is not luck, it's playing to game rather than to sim. It's all in what you want out of the game. Some just want to sink ships and be the best. Me, I want to pretend I'm a submarine captain, with all the headaches that go with the position.

Not too long ago, playing Sid Meier's Pirates, I turned the Spanish Main into the English Main, capturing every single city in the Caribbean. Of course I was playing on the middle level - on the hard level I haven't been able to survive the first year.

Well, I do play it as if I were an actual u-boat commander. The experience of the game is more important to me than sinking everything in sight like I'm using a BFG in Doom II.

If I wanted to rack up massive, arcade style tonnage I'd go play Sub-Roc on my old Sega Genesis. :p

I stay out as long as fuel and provisions allow. The only time I've ever returned to port with eels still in my belly was the time my bow tubes got destroyed from depth charges. I rarely use the deck gun these days because most of the merchants are now armed and travel in convoys as I'm approaching mid-1941. Lone merchants are usually close enough to land that air cover makes a surface attack nearly suicidal.

That said, my own best patrol was when I ran across a task force and sank a Revenge-class BB then later savaged a large convoy for a total of 64,601 tonnes. That BB made up for about half of that! :o

Let's raise a toast to StarLion45, especially since he's buying! :lol:

:D I like to see my self as a simple Kaleun who the only mission in life is to do my duty , and get my crew back alive . I go wherever the " BDU " send me . I do my duty , patrolling the grid for 24 hrs , and then I move around where my instincts tells me to do . I am at my 20th. patrol and I am proud of it , and I am DAMN proud of my crew . My fellow Kaleuns , and friends ,

He could indeed buy you drinks in the future, even though he might have sailed on to the Eternal Patrol...if you manage to persuade him to sign certain insurance papers during this round, specifying yourself as the beneficiary! :arrgh!:
