View Full Version : What's up with simHQ?

After a week of changes, they seem to have pretty much downgraded their forums in diversity and focus, much has gone, much other things have been thrown into one pot alltogether. Is their user community decreasing, or the size of their staff for maintenance, or what? If the changes were meant to be an improvement, I must say the new design somewhat backfires imo- and it is not the visual presentation I mean.

A site with reputation and tradition. When seeing it first yesterday, I hoped that the forum still was a constuction site, but it is not different today, so it probbaly is meant to stay that way. I liked it much better before. Many sub-categories are gone, putting simulation topics beside action topics in one place. Not good.

What exactly are you missing in the forums? I didn't actually count how many different subforums they had before, but I can tell you there's still a ****load of them left

There are forums left, yes, but as I said, much has gone, and much other stuff has been thrown together. Before you had 3 times or more of them, with many subcategories inside the general categories. Now you only have a reduced number of general categories, where all stuff is thrown together in just one pot.

It's all still there. You just need to log in to see everything. IMO a really bizarre decision on the behalf of the administration but none the less that's how it is.

Why ask here? :hmm:
Perhaps becaue there are quite a few Subsim forum members who also reside on the SimHQ forums.

A quite famous and wellknown simulation community website with a years-long tradition and reputation. A real heavy-weight.

Not before they're back online you won't :88)

Great resource. I mostly read SimHQ for my daily general simulation news, which they're really good at providing. Solid reviews/previews and feature articles, too. I've never been active on their forums however.

What ads? I don't see any either here or at Simhq. Adblockers ftw

Not so cool when both of those sites are supported by revenue from those ads

Um, Anyone who runs a site needs to be prepared to pay out of pocket to run. That sympathy stuff does little to me.

The ONLY sites that may be outside of that are sites to assist in RL issues.

I'm not really following you. Do you propose that Neal should cover the costs for SUBSIM out of pocket so that we, the users, are not subject to advertisements?

I'm not losing my sleep over the ads. They're irritating and I don't like them so off they go, as simple as that. If the site is really good and deserves my money then I donate, which is the case with Subsim.
