I want to make a shooting range with the mission editor, for testing torpedo types, target weak points, evasive maneuvers, etc. the problem is that I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA of how the mission editor works or how to make even the most basic mission.
Can you tell me a few quick steps for making a basic mission, with my sub submerged and a target passing in front? I managed to put a giant japanese sub crossing my path, but it had its engines stopped and still was moving at 5 knots.... and didn't fire a single shot at me, even when i was besides him

i already have missions set up for stationary targets for american and german sides.
just use it because its already done for you.
if you have mission editor questions you need to post in the SH4 Mission Designers' Forum

That Japanese sub is a non-playable and it won't work as an AI either, it was set for 5 knots so it starts the mission at that but slows to a stop. There is an AI version that you can use, look in the MODS list for AI Sen Toku. That one you used is only for show to put at a dock, or it never got finished, not sure which.
There is a mission editor manual for SH3 that is almost the same as SH4, only a few things different, nothing that would stop what you are trying to do.
