Few doubt the dollar is on the way out in the next few decades, but what will replace it?
Let lose your wild speculation! :D

In the long run: Euro AND Rembinmi.

But eventually i could imagine a rennaissance of plenty of local currencies as well. That is when china and the EU hit the upper limit of economical growth, and start to stagnate on a high level, while ressources become rare.

This is what the American people should be using for money http://www.bulliondirect.com/catalog/showProductDetail.do?id=296250133&gclid=CJn1mcCjyJYCFQQCagodX302xw not any sort of fiat currency, or "notes".

I wonder how much the US will go in trying to keep the dollar strong at the
expense of US export industries in order to keep the dollar as a popular reserve.

It doesn't seam to be doing all that much atm.

Don't see the Chinese currency gaining much ground. For all we hear about China's economic power, much of that activity is as a throughput house for Western countries.

Don't forget that was what the US was like before it over took the pound. All
industry, raw materials and ship building.

It would be interesting if OPEC switches to €.

It won't just be French warships at America's door demanding gold if that happens
before the euro overtakes the dollar as a reserve!

Dunno about gold but we have plenty of lead and depleted uranium we'd be happy to give those warships instead...

The dollar. The US economy may be going through problems now but in the end, the US will come through stronger than ever.

Scottish pound.

If every national bank on the planet were to begin collapsing, the bank of scotland would be among the last.

We're getting to the point of needing a common world currency I think.

We're getting to the point of needing a common world currency I think.I hope not, not any time soon at least - Way too much difficulty in implementing it even if it were necessary.

For example - how do you merge prices in Zimbabwe and prices in Europe?

Yep. There isn't any value behind the dollar now. Tis but a promisary note. Last year it took 21.60 to purchase what 1.00 dollar puchased in 1913. The year the Federal Reserve became enacted. But that dollar was backed by silver. I was just reading an article, that the U.S. Mint has suspended sales of the 50 dollar Buffalo gold piece, due to the demands with many investors buying them faster than they could make them.
