View Full Version : It's been almost a year....

About a year ago I traded my sub for a spaceship (eve-online) but now I'm back. I've been reading some of the posts and have realized that alot has changed. My last version was I think 1.4 and I ran three different setups (RSRD, Trigger, RFB) and a ton of mods.

I have a lot of back forum reading to do but I was hoping someone could give me a hand with the changes I should initially be looking at and loading and what order to load them in. I see there's a 1.5 version of SH. I'm assuming that's the u-boat addon. Can I still play historically accurate Pacific with 1.5?

I saw the new SH on the shelves at Best Buy and was tempted to get it. Pacific Environment looks good too. Lot's of changes. I think I'll be loading bare bones 1.5 and starting over. Any help for this returning vet would be appreciated.

Welcome back on Earth!
How was EVE BTW?

(I'll let the elders guide you through the mods, I'm on stock 1.4 myself).

Basically everything has gone to version 1.5 (thats what the U-boat expansion is)

TMO is still around although not updated so I made the switch to RFB and am glad I did so. Ducimus did an excellent job, it's just the fact that I like to use something that is kept current. RSRD is still used heavily and as always updated accordingly for both RFB and TMO. Lurker also released Operation Monson which is a german campaign in vain of RSRD. It also adds some U-boats.

If your serious about getting back into the game I would highly recommend picking up the U-boat expansion, because it does fix some bugs and all the mods and their most up to date versions support 1.5.

Thanks for the information, Orion. I will be picking up 1.5 today and running that as a separate setup. I still have my original setups from a year ago so as I get reacquainted with the sim I'll try updating things one at time. I'll probably still try to keep 1.4 as much as possible the way I had it, because to me it seemed pretty historically accurate at the time.

Thanks for the welcome back, Diopos. I really like eve and still play it alot. It's funny, but the ship I flew (and still fly) most often is the manticore. It's a stealth ship and very much mimics submarine warfare in WW2. Most folks like the interaction of gangs or corporations in eve but I enjoy the lone wolf type of play and the manticore was perfect for that.

Valuable lesson was learned here. If you going to try something new, try to at least go back to SH every now and then to keep current with the changes. One year is too long. It's pretty much like starting over.

Has Canal zone mod,AOTD.expansion based on TMO.will allow East coast ATO.new construction when translation glitches are corrected. Madmax,is working on this, and hopes [REL] Nov. Hopefully this will tie ATO to PTO for SH4. I know nothing, just perceived expectations:sunny:

NOTE:Multi SH4: will allow you to run current install also.

Scams? What do you mean ?
(Just curious)

There are dozens of 'scams' in eve, I pity the new player.

One of the oldest is a pirate group that charges you an initiation fee to 'join' once the fee is sent they invite you out to your 'initiation' upon arrival your blown to bits, podded, left naked and crying. "Sucker !"

Corporate spys are a daily occurance. Its really too much to try to cover here. Browse the eve forums. "Crime and Punishment" is always a fun section http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=channel&channelID=12451
