View Full Version : So where are we at in the presidential race?
SUBMAN1

The big issue of course is the battleground states. I guess if I had to make an opinion, we are at a virtual tie for the presidency at this point in time. I make that opinion based on fact. Here is where we were for Oct 24th between Bush and Kerry in 2004 for the Battleground states:
Battleground States: Bush Kerry
Republican States 56 34
Democratic States 36 53
Battleground States 43 49
Sounds familiar to today.

As for where things are at. Obama is ahead. Turns out the attack story was a lie and McCain's attacks are backfiring.
As long as almost everyone votes then Obama wins. Till then it aint over till its over so can we merge this?

Let me ask you this.
Barack Obama has put a lot of time - almost two years, including the primary process and pre-primary campaigning - into his bid for the presidency. This has undoubtedly put some stress on his marriage and his children, being under public scrutiny and having to appear at rallies and what not. Between the millions of dollars raised and Hillary's defeat, it's also pressed the Democratic party to its limits.
Why would Barack Obama string along all of these people, his supporters across the country, and those of us in the rest of the world that have been subjected to media coverage and his hype, only to have it all come inevitably crashing down in the end on a well-known technicality? Has there been any sort of precedent for this in election history? What can he emerge the better from putting the world through this trial, which, if the rumours prove true, will culminate in embarrassment, shame, and disappointment in only a few weeks?

Simple, there is already to much time and money invested. What, there has never been a cover up before in the government? The rules are rules set forth by the founding fathers. I have seen these certificates. I have seen mine that is in it's original form from 43 years ago. They really do not look alike at all. Some information seems askew on Obamas.
One cert denotes African as the father. Would that have been used at that time?

Okay, fair enough about cover-ups, but do you mean suggest that either Obama never knew about the restrictions on citizenship when he started this campaign (even this lowly Canadian knew!)? Or that he did know and has just been playing one very large, very very expensive practical joke on the whole world? He'd be sued out of existence and could never work again.

My thoughts are that they new this could be shaky at best if it was driven home. It looks to me like it was passed over quickly and a certificate produced in 2007. I guess apparently they were looking into this since he has a recently printed cert. As most politicians do as well as Washington as a whole, it was breezed through and blind eye taken.

In that case, it's not a story right?
But it occurs to me that isn't this law somehow contrary to how the US sees itself?
Isn't one of the main ideals of the American dream that anyone can become an American and there is no limit to what is achievable?
Besides I vaguely recall a couple of years ago republicans were wondering about the possibility of repealing the law to enable a Schwarzenegger candidacy.
Now I appreciate that a candidates eligibility has to be legitimate with the laws you have at the time, but don't you think naturalised Americans should be allowed to stand for the presidency?

Absolutely not Joe. There can be no question where the loyalties of the President of the US lay which is why it's not just a mere law but part of the constitution.

I don't know what Zachstar thinks, but I do think the Dems will retain that majority in Congress and will gain seats in the Senate because the average voter doesn't even know who the majority party in Congress is. Besides that, huge numbers of voters believe that George Bush is evil and since he's a Republican, they should vote for a Democrat because all Republicans must also be evil.
I know, it's not logical, is it? Too bad we're not Vulcans, then we'd just vote for the person most likely to do a good job no matter what party they are.:D

Yep, the judge ruled that Berg had no standing and could not show harm. Haven't seen the decision yet, but it sounds like the judge didn't rule whether Barry is a citizen or not, just that Berg didn't have standing and couldn't show any harm.
None of this even touches on whether he lost his citizenship when he was adopted and accepted Indonesian citizenship.
Of course, none of this matters, because no judge will rule on any of it after he is elected for fear of causing race riots like we've never seen before.
