I've been cruising off the US coast in Jun 1942 and have found an awesome spot for tonnage.
Inside DB 98, 22km NW of the NW corner of DM31 is a channel for 2 ship convoys and individual merchants - most of them have been ammunition ships or tankers and I've racked up over 115,000 tons. There are a couple of DDs around but none of them have come close to me as I've only been surfacing my IXC to charge the batteries.
I'm off to U-461 to rearm and go again.:arrgh!:
That's my favorite hunting ground in 1942. There's lot of tankers, whalers and large merchants.
Another good area is ED9 (NW of Port of Spain). Unfortunately, it seems that both become less lucrative at the end of '42.
In the meantime, good hunting!

In 1939 I've found plenty of targets in the AN42-AN49 area. Plenty of C2 and C3s. I even caught two unescorted Southhamptons in AN42. Only had 2 fish left, so I only sank one. Not bad for a IID, I passed on an escorted Rodney earlier in that patrol - from 15km to port of a TF moving at 20 knots is an impossible approach.

Thnaks for the intel, looks like Heinz Buder will be heading there after my current patrol. Although Heinz will want to get there as soon as possible.

Curious, which mod(s) are you using?? Ive just tried this spot in gwx2.1 in aug/sept 1942, all i got was a couple of destroyers patrolling back and forth and 2 coastal merchants, i hung around for 5 days within a 50km radius of your suggested spot but nothing worth sinking turned up.
+ Im in a VIIc with <25% fuel remaining so i think i`ll have hoist a sail if im going to make it back to St. Nazaire without refueling:-?

None of these should effect the game, just sit tight at periscope depth in the position I gave. There are a couple of DDs that cruise around but don't come near the spot and some tonnage will come along. The longest I've had to wait is 2 days.
Take a trip to St Helena, plenty of tonnage there!

If you want info on what ships are likely to be in which harbour, you could blow the cobwebs off this thread:
