Has anyone actually ever sunk one of these?....the Japanese version I mean.
I can't recall ever having seen one, but then, I don't intercept many task forces either. ..which is where I would expect to find them. I have seen IJA armour being transported on the decks of merchantmen but never an actual Japanese LST.
Seems the Flying Dutchman might be more common in game..

I've been through most of the war, 4 months to go and I haven't seen one yet.

You would have to be at an actual 'landing' in order to see these in action.
As far as I know there are no landings modeled in the game, RFB puts in some fleets prepairing for the landings but not the landings themselves.
I think the the fleet boats work was more or less complete when a landing starts.

Then that begs the followup question...:shifty:
why then... include them at all?...:-?
I was thinking after I posted the question..maybe there are some single missions that feature them. I've never played any single missions so I wouldn't know.

I think there are a couple in the initial landing force convoy heading towards Manila in 41.
I know of one where you can see a lot of troop transports with a task force with it...
Early 1942 in the java sea just befor.... Cr**p can't remember the name of the port
(its a home port for a short time)....
Start a career in 1942 with your home port being in the Java sea do your first patrol, then when you start your second patrol go in the direction of Singapore zigzag a bit before the narrow at TC you'll see a FPS drop, go at PD and scan manually... you find them (the heading will be 180 - 185) about 8 or 9 troop transports with a sh**t load of vessels (= assault on the Java sea aria).
This is my training aria for multiple attacks, Heck they even slow down to knots when the get near-ish land (at night)... very good for practice!!!!!!:yep: .
Can't be more specific as I'm waiting for RFB 1.6 to come out before I install the game again.

I know the base you are talking about. It was a Dutch submarine base. I can't recall the name either.
I would guess these type vessels would be early war as the Japanese invasion was already pretty well done by the time we were able to become involved very much.
I have yet to see a troop transport as well. Just a lot of pass. ships used as such.
The place I would check would be Lingayen Gulf when they invaded Luzon.
Had the Long and Lat + date for that one ritten down somewhere... Ill check if I can find it.
It's the same layout as the Java Sea task Force but less difficult as you have plenty of deep water to hide under... at Java Sea that isn't the case!
Max you'll get there is 90Ft >EDIT: at Periscope depth< below keel :arrgh!: good for evading tractics training.
Soerabaja is the name of the port you are talking about. Founded in 1293 and taken over in 1743 bij my fellow countrymen from the Duch East Indies Company.

The Dutch really knew how to do the job (locate colonies/ commercial outposts). Best "locators" in (western) history. Well maybe second best after the ancient Greeks...:hmm:
