View Full Version : Torpedo selection and deck reload problem.

Hello all

I'm in the current Wolves at War campaign.

I've just set sail on P19A, after selecting the authorized upgrades and desired torpedoes in the normal manner. I decided to stick with what I know best and selected a full load of T.III ( G7e) torpedoes, but once I had started the mission, I found I had a mixture of FATs, LUTs, steam and electrics. Not only that, but my deck reload boxes are empty.

Restarted several times, but each time the same problem; a random selection of various types of torpedo, and no external reloads.

None of this is a problem in itself, since boats did carry a variety of eels, and the weather on my last few patrols has prevented me using the deck reloads anyway.

Nonetheless, it is a glitch and I wonder if anyone else has experience of it. I'm using SH3 Commander v3.1 and NYGM 3.0

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm not sure about the internal selection - that definitely is an issue. You are selecting the eels immediately before starting the patrol, right?

As for the externals, I'm fairly certain that's a commander (and possibly NYGM feature) for default loadouts and is quite accurate - as the war went on, all boats in the Atlantic stopped carrying these due to the inherent risks. This would happen by 1943, though I'm not sure how far in the campaign WaW is nowadays.

Hope the campaign is running well! (man, do I miss WaW... but I simply have had no time to participate in the last couple of years, which is a shame.)

Yep, the torpedo selection is the last thing I do, after selecting the upgrades. Patrol 19 is the thirteenth patrol I've done in WaW3, and this is the first time I've had the problem. Can't think what could be causing it.

Off Topic...CCIP, WaW is as good as ever. If I remember rightly, you were both Heinz Fischer ( commander of the 2nd Flotilla ) and Johann Mohr in the first campaign, yes ? Mohr, Von Stockhausen and Lange were the Three Musketeers. ;)

CCIP, WAW is currently in early 1944, and it is getting rough on us sub commanders.:nope:

So you are THAT Lange. Oh boy, the troubles you had! I remember when in the first campaign we lost U-530 in what happened to be a fairly routine convoy attack - that was quite a shock. Of course it was only a start of things to come...

Yep, that's me and I remember it all too well! Still some of my best gaming memories ever from that campaign, as well as WaW 2. Great to see you here as well. I heard from von Stockhausen not so long ago and I hear he's been pretty busy as well.

I'll see how my work etc. stack up for me - I've been really all over the place in the last few months, and couldn't even afford to get internet access for a while. If things settle down for me it'd be great to do a WaW campaign again. I don't think I'd ever again have the energy to run a flottilla like I did with the 2nd back in the day, but hopefully I'll get a chance to do another career. With the end of war presumably getting close, maybe next campaign!

ON TOPIC

I would suggest rolling back Commander and trying to start up the game to see if it still happens. At least that way we could either pin it on that, or something internal to NYGM.

Yes, THAT Kurt Lange, and how pleasing that you remember U-530. I'm still not entirely sure why she was lost, though from recollections of those last few moments on the attack scope, I rather suspect Mister 'Hedgehog' came a-visiting.

WaW3 is approaching its inevitable " Gotterdammerung " and its great to still be in it at this late stage. Looking to the future, WaW4 is a certainty, but a Monsun campaign using SH4 and the Pacific U-boats expansion is also in the offing. Thats where I think I will go.

CCIP, it really would be great if you could drop by the WaW forums and say hello. There are people there who will remember Heinz Fischer; Von and BdU obviously, but Olaf Bertler and Trudi Hartmann ( and the rest of Heather's personas ) too. The name Heinz Fischer is already registered, by the way, but has not been active.

Back on topic...I'm out on patrol now, so I'll stick with the torpedo selection that's been imposed on me, but your suggestion is one route I can take when I return to Toulon. That, and maybe a clean install of the game.

I only know vanilla and GWX, so I'm not too hot on NYGM but there is a glitch that usually happens if your patrol starts over a new year.
SH3 switches to whatever the default weapon selection is when you hit Jan 1st in any year (the new torpedoes are not hard-coded and can be changed, but you need to play with .cfg files to make it happen). If you upgraded other items (and it sounds like you did) then the days that it takes to upgrade probably took you past the Jan 1 date and defaulted to your ships normal load.

You shouldn't have any problems after this patrol.

It is a glitch, but a minor one. It's not worth playing with the .cfg files because they will then reset the default for that year. The best way to adjust torpedoes is to use Wolfies Tweek Pack that is still on the SH3 mods page of subsim - you can set whatever your favourite mix of eels is and not have to change every mission.

Wreford-Brown, now that is very interesting, because the previous patrol ended mid-December 1943, and I set my SH3 Commander 'days in port' number to get me out on March 1st 1944.

When I applied the upgrades ( Naxos and Balkon Gerat ) the date still showed as December 1943. I also selected the torpedoes while still in December 1943 , but when starting the mission, that SH3 Commander setting moved me into the new year and March 1st.

Thanks very much indeed, you may well have resolved this, or at least explained it!

The date adjustment seems to get applied after you go to the mission screen - I believe it's a stock problem and it's definitely not caused by SH3 Commander. There is a work-around but it's not really worth the effort!
