Just took this picture from my terrace; pardon the graininess (max. zoom). A V-22 Osprey flew past earlier today, with rotors up. Wow! That was loud!

Very nice. Haven't seen the Blues since I lived in San Diego. Apparently the Hillsboro airshow isn't big enough for them.

Yeah, and liberal Democrats in the city are once again complaining about the Blues. How disgusting these liberal idiots are. The Blue Angels put on one fabulous airshow. These guys are very skilled aviators and do alot to enhance recruiting efforts and community outreach.

We had those planes here back in ither the late 90s, 2000. One of the two, they were performing at the one of the local naval air stations for a airshow. Those praticed over are house( along with about every other plane in the air show), and I tell you one thing. They are loud.:yep:
Yeah, and liberal Democrats in the city are once again complaining about the Blues. How disgusting these liberal idiots are. The Blue Angels put on one fabulous airshow. These guys are very skilled aviators and do alot to enhance recruiting efforts and community outreach.

Cause there is nothing better for them to do than talk out there a**es.:yep:
:rotfl:Forgot I was in GT for a moment. But seriously, there must be some kind of logic behind it. So I ask again: Why?

It varies, but it's usually just nonsense. These liberal Democrats here don't like the noise is one complaint. Of course they could wear earplugs or hide in the basement for the day. Another stupid complaint I've heard from them is that it "glorifies" war. And one of these people actually told me that it teaches kids that "might is right" and promotes violence. Absolute nonsense. :nope:

So some fighter(no longer fighter) planes are teaching kids that war is good, and violence.:rotfl: Good lord, better not let them start looking at airshows with Mustangs, Spitfires, and other war planes. They try to caput them to.:yep:

...Later on you realize the army is a dead end for crackheads and illiterate joes and "hero" is a overrated and over-used propaganda toolword and you just get to do something else.
This says so much about you. No wonder France is failing in the global scheme of things. This mentality you keep is the cause.

Subman? Why do you insist on blasting your horn at everyone that does not conform to what you think ,and why do you always try and target as many as "them" as possible whenever you can?
I personally believe that there is nothing wrong with airshows what so ever, and can inspire someone people to find a career that they can truly love while at the same time providing a service to their country, but that was not necessary subman.
I am going to side with Mikhayl on this side of the argument simply becuase he is right to a great degree. For the average ground pounder in the army, they are serving becuase they was dragged in my propaganda, or becuase they can't figure out what to do with their life/and or they can't simply survive on the outside without some kind of structure and system. Not to mention the fact that there arn't that many jobs avaible for "one man trained to kill other humans, and survive in a hole" availble.
The exceptions to this I would probaly say, is the college/acadamy educated officer corps, the lawyers, and the pilots/ground maintence crews, medics, crypto lingust/other specailists. However in the end, the person sitting there with the rifle, stuck in a trench is in a dead end job/carreer 90% of the time. While I respect them, I need them, but i defeintly don't want to be one.

Saw the Blue Angels performance at the IMAX theater a few years ago. Man was that cool. But some folks there needed the little green bag.

Yes, these airshows are there to attract people to the military as a career. And to show the public what they're getting for their money. I love attending them. And love watching the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds. They're both great shows to watch. The aviators who have been fortunate to be selected for those teams are truly the best there is.

On the other hand, many people who have come from troubled pasts have been saved by a military career. But I have to disagree with statements that the army "is a dead end for crackheads and the illiterate". That's not how I would describe those who serve in the army. It's a very uninformed response actually.

While I like the view of airshows, it nevertheless is an unneeded challenge to the devil. Flying in the most extreme range and in the vicinity of urban terrain, and crowds, may be exciting, but it is also unreasonable, to put it very calm and rational.
Some may remember the thread we had three years ago or so. Is it exciting to see this performance? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXNCZlQcvGw . Yes, it is. The pilot was the German world champion at that time, and instructor in the Bundeswehr. Oh, and he managed to kill himself during one of these flights. Even the best of the best remain to be eternally imperfect humans, and if you systemtically erase the margin for errors, anything less than perfection will get you killed.
Or others. http://www.stefan-arold.de/pics-eighties/ramstein.jpg
That it is highly immoral to try to trick the thinking mind and trying to lure young men into the army by blinding them with adrenaline, excitement and aroused emotions and pathos, goes without further need for explanation.
formations like Red Arrows, Blue Angels, Patrouille Suisse, are tools of propaganda, that's why they are being founded and formed up, and I think the armed forces should not do that, for they are not a job like any other. Leave it to the individual mind to decide all by itself wether it wants to join or not. don't parade an army in the street like a column of peacocks. train it, equip it, let it be what it is, and hope you don'T need it. Because what it is, is about this: http://www.aufwachen.info/assets/images/krieg.jpg
To make that an item of public entertainment, is grotesque. The tools of war should not be entertaining. A display of weapons is no showact for Saturday Night.

Thanks for sharing that pic Schoneboom. That Hornet looks really close to the top of the bridge.
@ Other guys: Why the heck do we have to bring the "liberal idiots/democrats" stuff into it. Can we just have some political free threads for crying out loud? :damn:

Not so I know a few who've joined the army and they have done it to serve their country and make a difference, and to be honest they are doing what they can, we can't all be lawyers, and if I was offered the choice between having the PBI defend the country and a whole Inn full of lawyers I know which I'd pick.

Amazing that politics get injected to this thread :damn:
Anyhow Ill releate a story. When I was much younger I was out playing golf with my dear mother. It was a small par 3 golf course in Miami. It was accross the stree from the big 'executive' two x 18 hole course. But thats not important.
About halfway through the course I could hear the familiar sounds of a scorching turbojet approaching "probably a lear comming out of MIA" I thought to myself. Well it got louder and louder untill it was defaning, suddenly just above the tree tops 4 blue angels over flew the golf course probably lower than 1,000 feet seemed alot lower. Right over our heads!
The group split up just as they passed us two went west, two went east, a few moments later another flew over, again low and loud headed north! It sent chills down my spine.
Wow thats pretty awsome! I thought to myself and looked around the course as every single eye was gazing skyward. After things quieted down we returned to nice quiet game of gowf. Again the noise approached, again a full group flew over our heads and this time iniated a turn to the west as a group.
Similar scenarios repeated at least 6 times. I had some 'connections' with local aviation so I looked into it later and found that the golf course was being used as a reference point for their aerobatic routines.
In some ways Im glad I went to play golf instead of going to the airshow

I think the Blue Angels will be back again today. I'll try to get another pic when they're closer. One time they flew in a tight diamond buzzing the skyscrapers, so low I was gobsmacked! Anybody at the top of those buildings could've made eye contact with the pilots! :o
If only I could find those old pix I took of the Angels, back when I used a film camera with a reflex super-telephoto lens! Those were the days!
And I don't know if any of you have seen an Osprey in flight, but it's awesome! I felt like I was in a sci-fi film come to life. You're not gonna sneak up on anybody, with the noise those rotors make, but when you see one, whoa...
Yeah guys, take it easy on the politics, please. I know it's an election year, but really!

Thanks! Re the aerial shots, the digital camera wasn't making it easy for me. I missed a lot of good shots because of the delay factor (autofocus + shutter) -- never had that problem with film cameras.
Also, one can't track the jets by their sound -- the skyscrapers act as reflectors, so what sounds like it's in front could easily be behind (over the hill, out of sight)! But hey, it was fun anyway... and there's probably more fireworks tonight!

That's because the AF on film cameras use active IR rangefinding, and digital cameras use passive. The exposure also tends to use more factors in the calculation.
If you have these features, set the AF on your camera to hyperfocal (since the jets are presumably more than ~5m away) and lock the AE too, since the light won't change that much. With no judgments to make it should start taking pictures a lot faster.

Yes, it's Fleet Week (Oct. 9-14). The Angels practiced Thurs. & Fri., performed Sat. & Sun. I didn't visit the ships, though I saw the Liberty ship years ago when it was docked at Fort Mason (now she's kept at Fisherman's Wharf, near the Balao class USS Pampanito). The other ships visiting this year: USS Bonhomme Richard, USS Pinckney, and USCG Cutter Bertholf.
Appears to have a advertisement for a Raido station.:hmm:
Yes, a radio station airing the talk show by political pundit Rush Limbaugh. Politics it is! :hmm:
Great pictures. And I remember the Snowbirds buzzing my place back in Ottawa, good to see they came to visit our southern neighbours
