So there I was browsing the internet for some form of entertainment when I arrived at the CBS website. I noticed they had some old star trek episodes (old trekkie and seen them to many times to count) so I browsed threw a few and remembered this one where they had a lot of ship to ship combat.

Star Trek - The Original Series
Balance of Terror
Episode 14
After attacking an outpost, Romulans battle the Enterprise

Doing some other activities at the same time I had the episode running and was drawn into it. As I watched this episode again I begin to realize where they got the plot from…submarine warfare. The Enterprise is the Destroyer and the Romulan ship is the sub. Heck they even disposed of a body in the tubes with debris to throw off the Enterprise. As the enterprise attacks from a distance it reminded me of depth charges being used. The Romulan ship seemed under powered but had that one big weapon that could take them out (torpedo anyone?)

Just found it interesting now after all these years to see the comparison.

One of the best. Loved that episode. That romulan ship was the first to test its experimental cloaking device. It worked well..:arrgh!:

By the way did you notice that the gizmoe that Scotty is fussing wtih in the opening shot looks suspically like a periscope? :hmm:

Anyhow thanks for turning me on to this.

Only after I began to wonder in to the sub world and watching the "Balance of Terror" for the second time I realized the connection!

"A piece of the action" is also one of my favorites:

"Waddaya think, we're stupid or somethin'?" - "No, no, I don't think you're stupid, Mister Krako. I just think your behavior is arrested." - "I ain't never been arrested in my whole life!" (Kirk and Krako).

Currently watching the Startrek TNG episode where Picard and his officers are forced to play out robin hood by Q.

Much like how U-boat captains were ordered to do the same for Hitler!

I must protest Herr Kaleun, I am not a merry man!

Do they have the episodes online to watch anywhere? TNG took some getting used to, but the Mrs, and I would watch them in sindication every sunday night after the original ST so we had two hours of ST to enjoy.

Sorry, I liked Kirk's "space cowboy" approach.

Deep Space Nine or deep slow nine? Or something, regarding that the first seasons of the show was not very active! DS9 has the dominion war and the brief war (or more a battle) between the klingons and the federation.
The space battles saved the show I think...and one was to wonder, what's those captains were thinking on going against enemy fleets with the shields down...

Currently a cable TV channel is transmitting the last series, Enterprise and since it's the first time here and there is noting of ST going in other channels (I'm still waiting for other channel to put the last 2 season of TNG... :shifty: ) I'm watching.
I remember that this one has a lot of controversy and yes, I don’t like the "ohhh, Star Trek TOS? Never heard it!" attitude of the show.

The space battles saved the show I think...and one was to wonder, what's those captains were thinking on going against enemy fleets with the shields down... The Dominion had weapons that pentraded the shields of just about every Alpha/Beta quadrent's race's ships, the only reason the Defiant survived was that it had lots of hull armor.
Its only mentioned two or three times so if you've blinked you've probaly missed it.

No clue why DS9s shields worked, other than Chief O'Brien is just that good at his job.

and yes I'm a recovering Star Trek Nerd. :p

Ahahahaha! I know that, I'm also a trekkie.:p
Also, manny people says that the reason the shields were off-line in the battles was because it required a lot of cgi efects, and the show couldn't do that! If it right reason, do not know.

No you don't. It's Saturday, not a Tuesday, which means you instead have a Inverse Fizzbin, the worst hand possible, which requires you to spin around 3 times and sing a Klingon operetta while wearing a Ferengi mask.

Also, I'm currently watching the DS9 Episode, I think its called "The Search" where Sisko first gets the defiant and heads into the Gamma quadrant where he has to find the founders, the Defiant powers down energy to help stay undetected while the Jem'hadar 'ping' with anti proton pulses.
