It was calm autumn night when we sailed out from our pen in St. Nazaire harbor. The WO was nagging me with his "Ship spotted. Aircraft spotted." routine. As usual in the port, I didn't pay much attention. All of a sudden, all hell broke loose. Everywhere around us searchlights, explosions, gunfire and screams. Three or four B-17s came from east and wrecked havoc to the port. One ship was sunk (a minesweeper, I think), and one bomb damaged my boat. No-one was injured. Despite heavy AA fire, all attackers escaped to the west, although the flames coming out of their engines could be seen for quite some time.
For the moment I considered aborting patrol and and stop to repair the boat, but I proceeded with my mission.

In all this confusion, I forgot to take screenshots. :-?

I wish to thank the GWX Team for including air raids into the game.

"Ship spotted, Sir!"

"Aircraft spotted, Sir!"

"Bomb spotted, Sir"

:o

I saw my first one while returning to Wilhelmshaven. I was just leaving the Jade, still several KM from the base, when I thought I saw some flashes in the far distance. When I got closer I could see several smoke columns, and finally wrecked ships and destruction.

I agree, it's pretty cool.

Well, the WO could have told me that the aircrafts were not Luftwaffe. :D

I've had that happen on 2/3 of my sorties from Norway in late '44/45. Myself, my flak ship, a Type XXIII, and its flak ship. No damage to our group in any of the raids, but the B-17s take a pounding and one a flak ship shot one down.

I was returning to Wilhelmshaven from my firts patrol in -39. When I reach port there is a cruise liner dockside (it was there when I set out on patrol) but now its on the bottom and on fire. Since the shallow deep the upper part of the vessel did not go beneath the surface.

When I head out for my second patrol the ship was repaired at its moorings but
when I returned from patrol she was burning again. The Britts seem to have a beef whith that perticular vessel.

Now that you've mentioned it, I remember seeing a burning ship in the St. Nazaire when I was returning from one of my recent patrols. I guess it was another air raid, which fortunately missed me for a small margin.

they ain't coming to say Hello!! Indeed, the sirens should have been the first sign that something's not right. :)
But somehow I missed it.

Besides, the watch crew should be usefull for something, appart serving as an extra ballast. :D
