Sometime before 6 a.m. Thursday, the lieutenant went to the locker room at his unit's headquarters by himself and found a weapon that was not his. The married father of two sons and a daughter shot himself in the head.
He apparently left a note in which he expressed devastation over the notion of his wife and kids seeing him as a criminal in handcuffs, according to media reports.




Congrats, you guys were right, and I was wrong. I will never attempt to defend the people on the front line.

That's really quite sad. But you can see that even he recognized that he made a serious mistake.

It's a tough job, my sympathies to the family. I wish he'd recognized that making a terrible mistake like this is not the end of one's life.

There is obviously more to this cop's life story than has been discussed.

I find it hard to believe that he would cap himself due to embarressment, dismay.

Surely he had more and bigger issues.

I think the cop made a really bad call. Tazing would be fine in this case IF the guy was not ten feet in the air. That was horrible judgement. He was right to off himself, he would have been fried. I would kill myself too before I went to a New York prison as a white cop. He would have just been butt raped to death anyway.
