Hello. My name is Piotr (Peter). I played SH1 SH2 and SH3. I love films like U-571, U-Boot and Hunting for Red October.

I'm web developer and game developer. I'm thinking about create my own company. Game development is hard piece of bread. It's hard to earn money like that working alone. But I want to try. I'm interested what do you think about my first attempt to create submarine game.

It is Polish site about game development.

What do you thing is worth to create game like this? I want to earn money creating games. I prefer that than boring web development. I just want to ask if anyone will buy it if you will decide that game demo is ok.

I just want to check a little a potential :) market. I like creating games and I like submarine games. I hope that it will be my future. I know that there is a lot to do. My first movies also show a lot of problems. But I'm thinking about some cheap game for Xbox 360 and PC. Maybe there is a chance to appear in this business. I think that it is the best place to ask because it is 1st site about submarines in the world.

Sorry for my English I'm 25 years old student from Poland.

Hi, it looks quite impressive for a first game ! Can you give us some extra detail, like what engine do you use, are you working alone on all aspects of the game, etc ?

This game will be working on my own game engine build in XNA. Right now I'm working alone but maybe I'll work together with my friend from my earlier job. He is graphics and music designer.

I want to create a game about Los Angeles class submarine. Xbox 360 controller hasn’t got a lot of buttons. So I was thinking to create so realistic game as possible with so small amount of buttons. It’s a lot to do … Right now water is flat. Maybe there will be some waves in the future. I was thinking about some rescue missions, patrols, attacks and nuclear conflict … :). Of course terrain has to be more detailed and with many objects like ports etc ….

I will continue with my work and inform about progress …

Like Mikhayl suggested some more details about your game concept.

The engine.

Goals and visions.

Yes I guessed it was about making money.:D

Sub games are alway exciting because its an area that many average people know nothing about... What lies under the sea? What protects our borders? Who are the men that go to great depths to keep the peace and order.

So if you target Console market you better make the control simple and easy.

For PC there is no limit other than the limit of each level of PC consumers have.

Min and max requirements to consider when making a game.

Multiplayer.

So basically doing some marketing research and look for what people mostly want in a sub game.

Options?

If you do WW1 or WW2 then try to improve on what is already out there. Ideally realistic immersion in a game yet for those who want simple for a quick game fix easy playing.

If modern sub game you need contacts to get access to military mission being preformed in the last 2 decades. Even if you have to change a few names and locations.. Even some theoretical scenarios that the USSR and US made during the cold war upto today.

If future no limite to what you can do as long as its believable and reasonable.

Hard to say PW_CH.

Your graphics are impressive.

Fraps will alow you to record your images on screen so you can make a better trailer.

Very cool idea you have an for my opinion I would love to see a new quality sub game.

As long as you moto is quality rather than quanity.

I know you want to profit. But pls profit the right way and respect your clients.

I was thinking about game action based in the future. Dedicated market will be xbox 360 consoles because there is nice marketplace, but it is quite easy to develop game working also on PC. Price will be something around 10-20 dollars probably - they will be some connection between quality and price. I don't want to sell poor and bad software. I want to have clients and support from my clients not only complains. I hope to release next version if 1st will be successful.

My engine right now supports terrain from hightmaps. I have to think about better system to display huge parts of landscape and water. It supports particle system used for explosions ... etc. Right now they look quite poor but they will be much better.
I'm also using sky component with moving sun and day/night cycle. Probably I will include in few months some nice clouds system.

The biggest task is probably physics of explosion. Sinking whole ship not divided for many parts after explosion looks very bad today:). Other very important thing is moving water with waves. These both task are probably the hardest things to code.

I have to improve camera and submarines and torpedoes physics.

I want to fit torpedo and submarines speeds to real world. I also want to keep ships/submarines/helicopters/planes sizes constrain and maximum depth level for submarines.

I was also thinking about moving threw thermo clines and connection between that and what sonar can see. I also have to implement for submarines ballast system because it can be very important during moving and fight.

AI for enemies right now is totally stupid … because they are just going throw waypoint system according to plan. I think that submarines will have few nice states and switching between them … for example “Crazy Ivan” from Hunting for Red October.

That all for now … A lot things to do … : ) Subsim community will first now about a progress : )


I hope my plans will go on. I'm trying to get some donations form EU to create my company and develope this game ... so I hope everything will go good way ...

I wonder what black project governments are drawing up with their future subs...:hmm: :rock: I don't know how you will get that info.;)
