Can men make predictions or prophecies this far into the future and then have them come true long after their death?

This man was a millionaire in the late 1800's which would be like a billionarie today.

I ponder, but I do not worry ... what will come to pass will come to pass.

Regretfully I have no literal version of his predictions, but he is quite well known for accurately predicting
the sinking of the Titanic and naming one of its victims, millionaire John Jacob Astor VI. Johansson
foresaw the events of World War I, accurately predicted San Francisco's earthquake of 1906 and
a volcanic eruption in 1902 that demolished the city of St. Pierre, Mertinique.

He said the Third World War would break out at "the end of July, beginning of August."
He further added: "I do not know the year."

Johansson predicted the following details:

1) India will be occupied by china.
2) New diseases used as weapons will cause 25 million people to die.
3) Persia and Turkey will be conquered by what seem to be Russian troops.
4) Revolutionaries will instigate unrest and war in India and Egypt to facilitate the occupation of India and Europe.
5) The Russians will conquer the Balkans.
6) There will be great destruction in Italy.
7) The "red storm" will approach France through Hungary, Austria, northern Italy and Switzerland. France will be conquered from inside and outside.
8) American supply depots will fall into Russian hands.
9) Germany will be attacked from the east.
10) There will be a civil war, Germans will fight against Germans.
11) The Eastern Bloc will cause a civil war in England.
12) Russia will lead a mass attack against the United States, so U.S. forces will be prevented from reinforcing Europe.
13) New weapons will cause huge hurricanes and firestorms in the USA where the largest cities will be destroyed.
--- Anton Johansson, Sweden, (1858 - 1909)

It sounds quite a bit like Edgar Cayce's predictions. I wish I could find someone to accurately give me the lotto numbers though...:D

Reminds me of Morgan Robertson, who wrote about Futility - The Wreck of the Titan in which the Titan was nearly identical to the Titanic (the date of the sinking, size of the ship, number of passengers, and cause of the sinking were all identical!). He also wrote about both World Wars and "sun bombs", which could destroy entire cities and would blind anyone who looked right at them. These "sun bombs" were dropped by "motorized kites".

I think it's possible to predict the future (I've had deja vu moments), but I'm skeptical about the supernatural backgrounds that are supposedly involved with this sort of stuff.

The "red storm"?

Damn, those commies all over again!

Anyway, looks like it won't happen this year, maybe next year :p

Well I googled him and couldn't find any of his predictions which have come about, there are a great many random utterances with the words chemical weapons in parentheses after them but that does not make an accurate prediction. What was the 'accurate' prediction the Titanic would sink? a big ship will sink sometime this century?

One of the pages even postulated that 9 times 99 might equal 1999- not on my calculator! (I'll leave that as an exercise for the reader:D )

I know we all want to believe but this rather streches incredulity.

Nah those are lies.

I don't believe any man could see into the future at least man himself.

Except that the Vikings will never win a Superbowl, the rest of your predictions are probably on target...

Question though: If telephone psychics are so good, why don't they call You?

I kid you not, we had a psychic fair in Aylesbury cancelled due to 'unforeseen circumstances'

In constant movement the future is, says master Yoda. Be careful with painful visions that you want to prevent from coming true - a path to the dark side of the Force this is.

I assume he was talking about self-fulfilling prophecies.

The problem with these predictions are that they are made vague by the predictor and re-interpreted later, often after the event predicted occurs, and are re-tooled to fit the event or something that is seen as pretty bound to occur in the very near future. Just once, I'd like to see one of these guys predict something and tell us about it "SPECIFICLY" instead of the thing passing from person to person getting re-interpretted and re-tooled like the stuff above. :nope:
I took a parapsychology class for fun back in high school and I worked on de-bunking a LOT of this stuff.
