U-Boat Contruction and Refit times

So here's an in Depth Charged Question....

I have noticed that if you make the slightest upgrade to your boat, then there are additional days that go by when you are in base that I assume are because of the refit that is going on to your boat.

How long did these really take, in fact how long were the construction times? I did a little digging and in their usual prussian way, it seems that they figured out ways to maximize what they had, and minimize wasting time.

Much depended on what kind of changes had to be made. Some parts were easier to come by then others, especially high tech parts were hard to obtain on time. Also, when the bombardments on building yards intensified it became progressively more difficult to get the job done. A complete overhaul which normally takes a few days would be stretched to weeks because of the bombing raids. Also, larger parts had to come from Germany by rail and often these wagons with parts were put on a sidetrack until the main tracks were repaired again.

As to building. They built modules in different parts of germany and put them together at the dockyards. The assembly went by very quickly.
