In May, Biden responded to a comment made in Israel by President Bush that compared Obama's willingness to negotiate with Iran to European appeasement of Nazi Germany before World War II. "This is bullsiht. This is malarkey," said Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. "This is outrageous. Outrageous for the president of the United States to go to a foreign country, sit in the Knesset ... and make this kind of ridiculous statement."

i don't understand what's wrong/funny with this one

Any moron would realize that talking with an enemy is a way of gathering information. It's also conducive to promoting less extreme solutions to problems.

It can also be a way of gathering disinformation, but I totally agree with your second point.

Btw, I see the analogy to appeasement as a poor example.

Don't forget that appeasement continued until the Polish city of Danzig clamored for return to the Reich.

Britain's response to this was to give a completely worthless war guarantee to Poland, emboldening that state's dictator, Ignacy Mościcki to resist reunification of Danzig to Germany. Keep in mind that Poland also occupied parts of Czecheslovakia
(the failure of appeasement?) but nobody remembers that, except maybe the Czechs and the Slovaks.

Had the policy of appeasement been pursued, it would have led to a clash between Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia, Hitler often stated his desire for this.

Should intervention be warranted afterwards, the West could have swept in to finish off or contain the victor.

What did appeasement get us in the end? 11 Eastern European nations and the eastern part of Germany behind an iron curtain for half a century. Poland was one of those nations, ironically. Making the world safe for democracy indeed, pfft!

Appeasement is hardly the example I would cite in defense of military action.

Well since bush won't do it, your statement is inaccurate. "Most morons would realize....." would be more accurate.
