View Full Version : modifying time compression?

Finally bought a new computer and with it SHIV Gold Edition. I want to make some changes I made in SHIII, chiefly making the max time compression higher. I don't see a main.cfg file in the root directory like I remember there being in SHIII. How do I make this change? I suspect the other (deck gun) change I want to make will be in the same file.
Thanks.
Do a search for the file, and you'll find it.

SH IV itself includes higher TC by default, up to 8192x or something crazy.

You need more than X 8000??????...:nope:
I've noticed too...that with the higher TCs.... at some point along the line, you start defeating yourself as the higher you go the slower the game begins to run....:yep:
That point being directly related to the current load the game is generating.
Even on the open ocean with no traffic seldom do I find 8000 to be the optimum TC speed for hurrying time along.

as others have said, the max time compression is not an issue with sh4.
you still will probably want to tweak the settings for limiting how high it goes near land or shallow waters, that is still a PITA

The point of diminishing returns :|\\ on my system on open ocean it is somewhere just above 4,000. Near ports or multiple contacts anything above 1,024 is a slide show.

And if someone could offer some advise for reducing that lag, I would much appreciate it. I don't think my specs are that bad, so I'm sure it's just bad settings in my hardware setup.
Athlon64x2 4200, 2gig ram, Geforce 7600 GT 256mb, 80 gig 7200 rpm HD, Asus nforce3 mobo with onboard audio, I don't remember the model number or socket type, bought it right before AM2 came out. I love this game, just can't seem to reduce the stutters during TC.

I dont think your going to find much help here. It is what it is. At high time compressions your going to get stutters. Espically when there are other ships in the area.
