Hello,
I've just bought sh3 and installed gmx 2.1.
I'm now doing the torpedo training mission and I've got a question I can't get off my head.
The big british merchant ship doesn't seem to be listed in the targets book. The closest I can match is a small merchant. Am I missing something fundamental hear?
Cheers

Assuming you didn't get crazy you can probably have your Weapons Officer ID the ship for you with the button on the periscope panel to select it. Then click the word "Ship:" on the TDC data notepad and it'll open to the correct page.
If you did go 100% "Realism" and turned off that assistance, well.. get close and aim high. :)

IIRC, under stock it was a C2 cargo. Under GWX 2.1 it is re-branded as a medium cargo. Depth of keel is ~9m. This class of ship is notoriously difficult to sink, especially when they are moving slowly in calm seas. Put two impacts, set for 6.5m, into it from directly 90 abeam, or fast mags set for 10m from any reasonable angle. Put the first into the area under the forward hold and the second into the after hold. If it stays afloat after that, it's cargo is polystyrene!

I think I've got the help of the weapon's officer, but as soon as I lock to the ship, the word "cargo" appears next to Ship: but the recognition manual doesn't open to the correct page and I cannot then set the range because I don't have the mast data.
However HMS battleships are recognized in the Bismark mission... am I right by saying that generic "cargo" ships don't appear in the recognition manual?
If so how do you visually calculate the range? I presume there must be a generic chart hidden somewhere :hmm:

If you are too far away from the contact, you will loose "lock" on it and the Cargo sign will appear in the notepad. When that happens, identify the ship again (or have your WE do it for you). And move closer. :D

If you have auto-targetting turned off, you need to lock on to the ship. It will say 'Cargo', as you've already seen. Now click on the WE icon, then click on 'Identify Target'. Then he will put up the exact ship name. After that you can click on 'Ship' and the correct page will come up.
