I don't usually share my game play due to the fact that we all have great experiences in the game, and who wants to hear about mine, but I wanted to share the last few days play, not in an effort to brag, but maybe in an effort to brag about how wonderful the game has become. I am running GWX 2.1 with quite a few of the great mods, it's April of 1940, left base, listening to all the wonderful sounds of the boat, great music of the gramaphone, getting quite a few messages from Bdu about all the other Uboats activities, everyone is doing well, noticing a lot of activites towards Narvik, so we were going to head that way, started in that direction, ended up cruising with a few of our destroyers and a few other uboats, and one of our convoys, never thought about this before and it added a whole new dimension to the game. Defensive instead of myself as an offensive weapon, just out infront of the convoy protecting it from any threat. It was fun. Got to Narvik and instead of TC, I just stayed on the bridge. The Fjords were beautiful, and I just took it all in, this was my first attempt at piloting the boat into one of the pens, and to my suprise, 1st try I went right in and no errors no banging, ahead slow and cut the engines as my bow entered, and then a moment at back slow. I wonder in real life which would have been more embarassing, smacking the front of the boat against the concrete wall, or stopping short with the boat half in and half out, and spending twenty minutes going back and forth trying to get it in? Or did they do it so much that they had a system, when a certian part of the boat passed the outer door, they knew when to cut engines?
After leaving Narvik, I was headed to the north of England when we sighted a convoy, nothing major, but I took out three of the 4 destroyers with eels, and surfaced, didn't know there was a 4th one there, he charges and I was tired and lazy so we manned the deck gun and started the duel, I have no idea what happened, we landed our 4th shot and he just exploded and sank...must have hit the forward 5 inch magazine. Now this little convoy was unprotected. The AI is well written, they started to disperse, and while we were selecting the more juicy targets, this little bastard of a merchant came up from behind us, my watchman screamed "we're being rammed" but it was too late, and we got nailed, but nothing too serious. Just great emmersion. We went for the larger ships first sank them all, sank everything we could til out of ammo, ended up with 60K.
Thanks for breathing new adventures and new life into this game.
I have been suffering from Cluster Headaches the last few weeks, and let me tell you, at midnight with no sound in the house except for the surround sound speakers on softly, every light in the house off except for the glow of the monitor, and morphine coursing through your veins, your can really get in the mood of the game.
