Hello all, new here. As my toplic suggest I am not much at home with a computer, all I have learned has been self-taught.

I have SH 4 and 3, enjoy both. Started out with SH 2, at last got a better computer to allow me to enjoy the latest.

My SH 4 (Wolves of the Pacific) is V 1.2 so I need to install patch 1.4. I downloaded it into my downloads folder but how do I incorporate it into the game?

Presently my clock doesn't work, keeps good time but no function other than that. Also I use no fuel, unlimited batteries, no duds, all on career. I think the patch will fix this maybe.

I have learned a lot from researching the past topics. Many questions have been asnwered and I have learned much from doing so, but what am I failing to do in installing a patch? I tried before I had saved games. I understand it won't install when you have those but it still didn't seem to "join up" with the game so to speak.

Thank you for your help.

The official patch you should just run from your downloads folder and it should install correctly. You might need to tell it where to install to. Can't quite remember since it's been so long since I installed, but it should be all automatic for you.

Can you give us a step by step process of what you're doing and include any error messages you get?

You gave me an idea. I went to "my downloads" and double left clicked on the patch and it took it fom there. Installed from 1.2 to 1.4 it said. Don't know about my saved game if that affected it or not. If so I'll go back and delete the saved game and retry.

I hope it fixed the clock and gets me to where I am burning fuel now.

Thanks for your help.

I'm pretty sure the change from 1.2 to 1.4 would break save gaves.

You are correct, my saved games are no more. No big deal, though. The patch did install. On the screen at startup it now reflects v 1.4 where I had v 1.2 before.

I had planned to restart my career at the start of the war using manual targeting anyhow. Biggest problem there is obtaining a correct target speed. Kinda strange the game doesn't have a feature for this unless I am overlooking it. The new clock seems to just time torpedo strikes.

I understand some would look at target and simply guess as to speed, others would listen to the prop and tell but there was a way where you would take 2 timed readings and compute bearing and speed using cosines law. To me this sounds like the best way, especiallly if you are already at scope depth and unable to use radar to plot. Anyone use this method?

Finding speed in various forms can be found in these tutorial videos:

The watch does.. kind of work. You need to press the plunger at the top to start/stop/reset it, but it starts immediately, so you have to be quick. It's pretty much crap. heh
