Hi!

what you need is:

-Fraps (to record in-game footage) get it here http://fraps.com/ (the freeware version has a limit that you only are able to record parts of just 30 seconds)
you have to buy a registration to get rid of the limitations and unlock ALL the features of Fraps.

-Windows Movie Maker (to edit the footage and to save the movie into a reasonable filesize/quality so you can upload it on youtube for example)

those are the basic needs to make a movie.

Some people prefer Virtual Dub to WMM:

Also, LOTS of space on your harddrive. From my experiences with Fraps, capturing video eats up space VERY quickly.

There has to be a better recorder than Fraps.

Made a 1 minute video with half screensize and it took up 800MB. :) The converted movie file (using Windows Movie Maker) was 7MB.

You may want to try Camstudio or Taksi?

Fraps writes all frames to catch as BMP files on your harddisk, resulting in no loss of quality but really huge movie files. It's important to have a fast HD to manage the amount of data to be written.
