View Full Version : CO2 won't stop rising

Hey there, I'm new at these forums and I'm trully sorry if there is a topic about this already, but since I can't seem to locate a search fuction I'm just gonna post it here...
This has happened to me twice already, first time it lead to the end of my career and this time I decided to ask for assistence (especially since I've sunk about 40,000tons on this mission).
I've just did a mission to take some pictures of a harbour and stayed at periscope depth during my exit. Now since my batteries were nearly flat (5/100) I decided to stop there and wait for nightfall to remain unseen... which worked (barely :p).
The problem now is that even tough I'm running on the surface, my CO2 levels are still rising (they were at 64 when I surfaced and it's at 68 now)...
I've tried diving again and resurfacing but it didn't work...
Another strange thing is that my watchcrew aren't at their posts, so one might think that it's a bug... but my batteries on the other hand ARE recharging and my feul is depleting... so the game does realise that I'm on the surface...
So does anyone know what there is going on? Cause I really don't wanna end another carreer like this

OK, put your money down on the table and let me get my crystal ball. Now, you will agree that I have never in this world seen you before? Good.
Hocus, pocus! The ball is clouding..... and..... yes......I see......Silent Hunter 4 U-Boat Missions, correct? :yep: OF COURSE I AM CORRECT, STUPID!!!! Ahem.....
I see your submarine below the surface of the water......I see the CO2 meter rising.....I see you panicking.....I see....... death. And I see something you do not see! It is a button........ But it does not look like a button. Nobody told you it is a button....... not even the instructions you did not get with the U-Boat Missions add-on.....
Please deposit $5.00 more to continue.....
Thank you. This button......it is in the upper right corner of the screen, carefully placed there by diabolical developers so you would overlook it. If you move your.......mouse over it.......it warns you of high CO2 levels.
If you click it..........it surfaces the boat...........and........opens the........hatches. Your problem will be solved.
Welcome to SUBSIM, Nick Brown. We are not all as strange but useful as I am. Some are even stranger and less useful.
For me, I have to exit to Main Menu and re-enter the game to make the CO2 go away. Others can solve it by saving, and re-entering. I cannot.

Dont mind Rockin Robbins. We're not all crazy like him. But he is a fairly awesome knowledge bank of SH tips and tricks and more than willing to help a fellow skipper out.
Welcome to the forums, enjoy your stay. Now if you'll excuse me I've got some Marus to send under

your kidding right?
so I basicly have to tell my crew to open the hatches while they're all to busy choking on CO2 fumes?... the US Navy weren't exactly the brightest lot around were they?
lol and no worry's about strange people... I've seen some crazy things on other forums aswell :p
I have to say that you post is one of the most original ones though :D
one question though, why did this happen now? and not after all the dozen of times that I've dived?
EDIT: I've tried that Rockin Robbins, but it just surfaced the baot and that was it, CO2 levels were still rising... I'll try to save and re-enter one next... thx everyone :)
EDIT2: okay the save and re-enter seems to have worked.. made it back to port with the nice ammount of tonnage :)
thx everyone :)

For me (as well as some others), that "bug" appears shortly after "alt-tab"ing out to the desktop.... CH

Comes from ALT-TABBING out of the game [co2 drowning] from what I hear from these dudes here @ subsim.
I had this happen to me 2-3 times before I got smart - no ALT-TABBING to the desktop. Problem goes away.
YOUR FIX:
Save your game.
Exit the Game.
Reload your last game - SMELL the fresh O2. :p
QUIT tabbing out of the game!

Thank you for the BAN - found other ways to work around it and I did keep up on things for those two weeks - never got out of touch of what was happening or what was posted by others. No, I did not create new account[s].
Too bad you thought I was cut off, never happened - read the forums here every day for 14 days and stayed current to what was said and came back without being in the dark.
Never missed anything other than expressing one's self.
Your Ban's are based on Forum Screen names. Your Ban's do not work with multiple IP locations [numerous in my case] - nothing you can do about that it seems. I worked around it with no problems regarding the ban.
Back on topic, Nick Brown :
Have you been ALT-TABBING out of the game to do something else? Stop, doing that!

Relax I had nothing to do with the hiatus.
Was just an observation.
I believe the op's question was cleared up in the first couple of posts.
Take a deep breath

Use the damn SEARCH button - o.k. Little Billy?.If you even bother to read my first post then you would have read this little line...
I'm trully sorry if there is a topic about this already, but since I can't seem to LOCATE A SEARCH FUNCTION
now I see that it's on that top bar, but at the time of posting this topics the only things on that grey bar were, "user cp - Faq & Rules - Calender - Quick Links"
and how on earth should I know that alt-tab-ing would cause this problem? I don't even see the logic relation between the two things?
Unlike you perhaps I do have a social life and people actually talk to me over msn... even when I'm playing some game... and that's why I alt-tab...:shifty:

Who knows why... it just does. Logic has little to do with it.
As said its a known bug.
Leave it at that.
Maybe you could play in windowed mode if you must shell out. I dont know if that 'fixes' it or not.

...you shouldn't have and... psttt... neither did the couple of hundred others that actually went ahead and killed off their crews because maybe, unlike you, they didn't have enough good sense to go ahead and ask...like you did...

Captain: "Full Starboard rudder, All Ahead.....uhhhh, hold on a second, my cousin just contacted me on the mutli-lingual sound network (msn)."
Captain: "OK, I'm back. Now where were we?"
XO: "Well, just great....now we have CO2 levels rising and the destroyer just dropped 10 cans on us".
Captain (thinking to himself): "Hmmm, I wonder when I last saved?"

LOL...funny that you should mention that.
Last night I was working my way into a convoy when the phone rang. I hit the "p" above the time and when to answer the phone (after searching for it...I have a teenage daughter).
When I came back to the game, I found out that I apparently "miss" the "p" button, and I was greated by multiple damage reports and was just in time to see my boat sink.
ME (thinking to myself): "Hmmm, I wonder when I last saved?":rotfl:
You havent't got it right!
CO2 uncontrolably rising...
It's a Global Warming Thingy! :D
Your Permanent Solution:
Proceed to Kyoto and insert agent at Conference!
What? Kyoto is not near the sea? Well wait a bit. The sea level is rising anyway!
Or not! :hmm:

Yep, Global warmth [over time, though]. Positive PROOF of co2 problems are coming your way as those tempratures increase:

Or better looking.
On the Alt+tab business; there's also the "reverse" of the CO2 bug. I fyou Alt+Tab while surfaced, you may find that the watch-crew won't go below decks anymore when diving. They won't drown, but it looks rather strange. :-?
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj2/EZatHome/SH4Img2008-08-26_073841_109.jpg
Also on the Alt Tab question--if you alt tab your sub will no longer go to silent running. Your crewman will awknowledge silent running but your sub doesn't go to it--no icon on the screen, torps continue to load, etc. You have to exit and re-enter the game to get silent running back.

The CO2 problem seems to persist ... other option then save/load do not exist? Ahhh and another problem, after I load the game i still hear the eco of the torpedo's and the last actions i performed before saving, but in a very fast sequence. Any ideeas?

nobless, saving the game, exiting and then reloading the game will fix the problem. Nothing else is guaranteed to work. I find that running the game in a window instead of full screen minimizes the problems.
