Greetings all,

I would like to know if you play DiD and at 100% realism settings, and who runs patrols consecutively from 1939, '40, '41, '42, '43, '44 thru 1945.
Thanks in advance!!

100% DiD from 1939-1945... but not with one commander, but rather one U-boat.

for example, Ill take U-53 in 1939 and when Sh3 commander retires my guy, i will continue U-53s career with a new crew.

until dead. in which case i start over from the beginning with a new boat and a new commander.

furthermore, if a commander which i use is killed... i never use his name again.

Dead Is Dead, definitely. 100%, not so much. Still trying to learn manual, and trouble weaning myself from external views. That said, I try to do everything else as realistically as I can by my own lights, and my mediocre scores reflect that.

Similar to GR, but with one major difference. I too use Commander to limit the career length, but when a kaleun dies or retires, I start a new career with a new boat at that point.

Sounds like a great idea to me!

Wish you the best for your new site and a good idea to test the water first.

Run one captain (myself, pretend I have been given a life sentence due to a conflict with authorities) + realistic crew + Start with IIA + DID. Percentage realism is difficult to answer simply, I run at 100% but with mods + ShGen it is way higher than the basic one. I like the challenge, following orders and statics shows it was HELL. Keep it as realistic as possible with plenty of atmospheric immersion.

Hope this helps.

*raises hand*
But I play using the OLC Ubermod which allows certain realism options to be enabled without a realism hit, because those realism options don't work the same as they do in stock SH3.

I play with 100% realism, but I suck too much and don't have alot of time to play DiD... :nope:

How can you do that with S3Com? :o

With the latest version of SH3 commander, when the career is ended with the pop up message "Report to Kiel to assume training duties" or whatever it says. you click okay.

then, under the "Click for available actions" link you can select "continue this career with a new commander"

The Appointment in Samarra
as retold by W. Somerset Maugham [1933]

Speaker is Death

"There was a merchant in Bagdad who sent his servant to market to buy provisions and in a little while the servant came back, white and trembling, and said, Master, just now when I was in the marketplace I was jostled by a woman in the crowd and when I turned I saw it was Death that jostled me. She looked at me and made a threatening gesture, now, lend me your horse, and I will ride away from this city and avoid my fate. I will go to Samarra and there Death will not find me. The merchant lent him his horse, and the servant mounted it, and he dug his spurs in its flanks and as fast as the horse could gallop he went. Then the merchant went down to the marketplace and he saw me standing in the crowd and he came to me and said, Why did you make a threating getsture to my servant when you saw him this morning? That was not a threatening gesture, I said, it was only a start of surprise. I was astonished to see him in Bagdad, for I had an appointment with him tonight in Samarra."

Heh, I guess Fate keeps Death on a pretty short leash, given that she doesn't know anything beyond what he writes in her diary.

I play at 87% realism (I think that is the exact number)

1. I enable unlimited fuel because I am sick of traveling in my rusty Type VII to South Africa and having to travel at oar speed.

2. I enable the event camera solely because it is so cool to see your torpedo traveling and see the hull of the ship looming out of the darkness.

I usually play DiD with the exceptions of death caused by computer glitch/hang ups and TC deaths.

I have completed one full war career 1938-1945 and frankly I will not do it again. From 43-45 the game was way no fun. But I had to do at least one full war career.

I find that playing DiD makes me a lot more cautious which I feel is more realistic. Sure my tonnage is low, but I come back alive.

One of these days I will have to try 100% realism (But I love my event camera :) )

PappyCain, are you aware of WaW?
It's kindof the same things as you're doing... a full-blown, 100%+DiD, roleplaying site for SH3 players. Thought I'd mention it... re-invention of the wheel and all that.
