Look no further

I might have been a singer
Who sailed around the world
A gambler who wins milions
And spent it all on girls

I might have been a poet
Who walked upon the moon
A scientist who would tell the world
I discovered something new

I might have loved a king
Been the one to enter war
A criminal who drinks champain
And never could be caught

But among your books
Among your clothes
Among the noise and fuss
I've let it go

I can't stop and catch my breath
And look no further, for hapiness
And I will not turn again
Cause my heart, has found it's home

Everyone I'll never meet
And the friends I wont now make
The adventures that they could have been
And the risks I'll never take

But among your books
Among your clothes
Among your noise and fuss
I've let it go

I can't stop and catch my breath
And look no further, for happiness
And I will not turn again
Cause my heart, has found it's home

This was exciting news for me. Finally, with a delay of 18 months or so, the new album by Dido, entitled "Save Trip Home", will be released in late Octobre/early November.

I just have watched some new videos, and listened to two tracks. One of them touched me so directly and straight that it left me speechless for two minutes, really moved. She definitely has changed her way to approach music, although maybe in a subtle way, maybe even a bit experimental. This sounds different than her first two albums, if the whole album is like these two tracks. It could be that it is true what has been written in the past 18 months, that due to some tragic family event she stepped onto a somewhat more intimate, private path for approaching music. And a unique, unmistakable voice she has always had anyway.

i also appreaciate that she does not rest with her past fame and tries to live by it, but that she improves, by learning new instruments, editing, studio cutting and all that stuff. That means she is dedicated to become a complete musician in the best meaning of the word, not just resting with some talent she was gifted with when still lying in her cradle. Too many "stars" living for one or two shows and then dissapearing again just rely on their "talent" or what they consider to be that - and then find out that talent alone does not get you very far. TV casting shows are full and full of them.

Really loving her texts, voice and music, and having seen one of her concerts live and knowing the Brixton Academy video recording in and out, I'm looking forward to this long awaited album, although it could be that maybe it is not for the wide mass market any longer.

I am not sure, but it could be about her father who died more than a year ago or so. It was written that this really made a heavy impact on her. Well,it probably does that for most people loosing their father, but it delayed her album by 1 year. The former album draft she had was completely reworked.

No. Two songs have been made available as promo on her official website.

Check www.didomusic.com (http://www.didomusic.com). there are two or three new short vids from interviews during studio works, amongst old music videos.

And to brighten the rest of this grey, rainy day:

(yeah yeah I know I've linked it before, but still it is the perfect musical antidepressive)

Update: the album again has been delayed by two weeks, due to manufacturing problems in their CD factory. It will now be released around 14th Novembre.

A first review of the album is up, an it seems to exactly confirm what I came to expect. Looks good. The song they talk of, I also heared meanwhile, and it is indeed like what they say.

I'm really waiting for this one now!

http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2008/oct/12/dido.popandrock

Not that it's a gloomy album, but these songs are noticeably more reflective, their themes of longing and absence rooted deeper than the caprices of romantic love, and consequently it feels more serious than her previous work.

P.S. Be aware that there are TWO version sof the album, one with the original set of 11 songs, and a double-CD with 3 or 4 more songs and a remix, and one video.

Dido-fans, heads up - another four star review here:

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/music/2008/11/02/2008-11-02_dido_rocks_steady_in_her_safe_trip_home.html

In her work since, she has always employed the tools of a good actor: communicating rich emotion in small gestures, thereby making sure to leave room for the audience to feel everything they know she's holding back.
(...)
It's impressive stuff, but the setting would mean nothing without Dido's presence at the fore. Once again, she makes the case for less as so much more.

9 days anymore. :D

Of course, you can take the girl out of London, but you can't take London out of the girl. "I drank an enormous amount of Guinness during the course of the album," she says. "We had a Guinness tap in the studio inside of a kegerator. It is a food group, in my opinion." :D

You don’t have to listen too closely, or even be a Dido fan, to understand why she touches her audience deeply. She has naturally developed that quality songwriters long for – the common touch.

Beautiful both in sight to see and voice to hear:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89-XSP_nxV8

Dido live at Regis and Kelly. Evidence that she is wonderful both with a full band - or minimal setting like here. Simple, pure, direct, no distracting effects - beautiful.

Haven't waited so intensely for a CD release since years. 2004, with the comeback-CD of reunited Matt Bianco (with Basia), was the last time when I had a real wakeup-experience with a music-cd again. I hope this one by Dido is not different.

Got it today, just finished listening through.

Fan of her voice that I am, I like it very much, the album only has 2 weaker tracks, the others I really like. the album as a whole is a "rounder, more complete package" than previous albums, it all breathes the same mood and obviously is one piece of work, not a collection of sub-pieces, like the previous albums. However, if you are not sure wether you would like it or not, let me tell you that this is a different Dido than years ago. You will not find the smash hits of the past, nor just copies of her earlier songs, this album is more grown up both in musical arrangement and song-writing, and less focussed on the main stream. Her musicality is beyond doubt, so is her voice and her competence to use it (with a heavy bias for cool, melancholic understatement), and some of the songs made my arm's and neck's hairs raising. But floor-sweepers like "See the Sun", "Here with me" and "White Flag" are not there anymore.

Surely it reminds people of why Dido has been missed so much over the years of her absence. Fans will buy this blindly and will not be disapppointed, all others may want to listen in a bit, and many then buying anyway. All in all it is songwriting at its best, quite some subtelty in instrumental arrangements, and again: an beautiful, unmistakable voice.

I give it 4.5 of 5 stars (like for her first labum, and 5 stars for her second). But again: This is a different Dido. Don't expect more of just the same: she has moved on, and for the positive.

P.S. I got the extended album with a second CD with bonus tracks. If there is one complaint, then about the quality of the CD case, it is made of poster-paper with two deep pockets, and it is not easy to get the CD out of them without damaging the case. The bonus tracks are one mediocre track, one good track, and one remix of a track from the main album. All in all you do not need the extended version if you are not hardcore fan and collector. For an "extended version", I expected more.

Well, being a fan also, I have to say I agree with you.

However, unless your a dedicated Dido fan I feel the majority of people will still rate her previous two albums higher, if just for the chart hits they contain.

Well, yes, that is likely to be the case, as I said: this is another Dido than Dido five years ago. The album is different from the first two. But the music really touched me and moved me deep inside, and so: different, but still extremely good. I would not run it in the background, but have a quiet hour, sit down, and just listen to it and do nothing else than that. Only then it unfolds it's strength and beauty.

I almost ran into her once after a concert on the Opernplatz in Frankfurt in 2005.
I can't say I'm a fan or something but she sure seemed a really nice person.
I wouldn't have recognized her at all if not for the usual "Star" entourage around and the fact that she just left the stage.

Skybird

I was on her Hamburg concert during her world tour, and although it was a bit raining that evening, it was the most impressive stage event beside "Riverdance" and the "Berlin RSO and Argerich playing the 3rd Rachmaninoff concert in the Berlin Philharmonia" that I have ever experienced.

Ouh, and the 1 hour or so firwork of Andre Heller 1984 on the Platz der Republik also was impressive. I still have the button they sold instead of tickets. Just the immense crowd was something that was limiting the fun. I hate crowds.
