Most watched political convention in American history. That's pretty impressive. Shows a lack of confidence in Obama's standing I'd say.

After lackluster showings (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/09/nielsen-republi.html) in viewership at the beginning of the week, the Republican National Convention bounced back on Wednesday and Thursday, making it the most-watched political convention in American history (or at least since Nielsen began recording convention viewership in 1960)....

That's a rather shallow level of analysis.
Only you can take a tv watching statistic (which is estimated) and turn it into an inference of lack of confidence with the candidate you disagree with.
Did ja ever consider that the hoopla over the selection of Palin might have just sparked a little interest? :yep:

Great analysis from a guy that posts Obama/Amish toilet humor on subsim forums.

Did ja ever consider that the hoopla over the selection of Palin might have just sparked a little interest? :yep:I'm sure it did. Problem is, the GOP is 'never' as high as the democrat side. Ever! If a poll shows both at 40% for example, a conservative is less likely to participate in that poll so you are looking at numbers that are under-representing for the Republican side. Always.
Its most telling portion is that people were not happy with the choices up to that point. Palin was the perfect ingredient to boost things like I've never seen before in a Repub convention (and I've been watching them a long time!)

Come on Subman, this is really scraping the barrel for anything that even remotely smells like good news. :D ;)

The GOP convention was more newsworthy due to Palin. Nobody knew who she was until last week. Subman's conclusion is erroneous.

Course you don't, I'm disagreeing with you.
Why do you think that it's Obama who's responsible for the increased interest in the convention instead of an unprecedented selection for the McCain ticket? I mean, who has dominated the news either side of the convention?
SUBMAN1

See you would be right if Palin was speaking the whole time. When the numbers came in, Palin's speech was already over the day before! It was McCains speech they came to see.

The news is hardly an indicator of anything except for the medias bias to the democrats.

There are going to be a lot of disappointed Obama supporters when McCain wins.
Just wait and see.

It is clear that you hate Obama. You keep spreading your hatred on this forum, and starting flame wars. Quite frankly you're just pissing me off.

I would venture to guess that the numbers shown for McCains speech might be a result of many believing the Obama is not ready. If that is the case, what are we looking at then from McCain. I'm not really sure what drives the numbers this time. This whole campaign is very dynamic.

Sounds awfully similiar - http://maxblumenthal.com/2008/09/palins-pastor-god-is-gonna-strike-out-his-hand-againstamerica/
Kroon placed Zephaniah in a modern context, warning that the sinful habits of Americans would invite the wrath of God. “And if Zephaniah were here today,” Kroon bellowed, “he’d be saying, ‘Listen, [God] is gonna deal with all the inhabitants of the earth. He is gonna strike out His hand against, yes, Wasilla; and Alaska; and the United States of America. There’s no exceptions here — there’s none. It’s all.’”
That sounds like God will damn America to me.
And then there's these

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0908/13098.html
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/06/us/politics/06church.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin
In the address at the Assembly of God Church here, Ms. Palin’s ease in talking about the intersection of faith and public life was clear. Among other things, she encouraged the group of young church leaders to pray that “God’s will” be done in bringing about the construction of a big pipeline in the state, and suggested her work as governor would be hampered “if the people of Alaska’s heart isn’t right with God.”
She also told the group that her eldest child, Track, would soon be deployed by the Army to Iraq, and that they should pray “that our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God, that’s what we have to make sure we are praying for, that there is a plan, and that plan is God’s plan.”
A pipeline being God's direct will? That's not being overtly religious, it's insane.
Or horribly cynical and manipulative. But that couldn't be it.
EDIT - Awright, let's go with the Jeremiah Wright question. Why did Gov Palin sit still and listen to a preacher describe terrorist violence as God's judgement against Jews? (where have we heard that one before?)
"Judgment is very real and we see it played out on the pages of the newspapers and on the television. It's very real. When [Brickner's son] was in Jerusalem he was there to witness some of that judgment, some of that conflict, when a Palestinian from East Jerusalem took a bulldozer and went plowing through a score of cars, killing numbers of people. Judgment — you can't miss it."
Think again (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5iyCjg56QEYy3r8Gz2X09TnpaWOMwD9317JU00), Subman.
Since the last federal election in 2006, volunteers like Graham combined with the enthusiasm generated by the Obama-Clinton struggle to add more than 2 million Democrats to voter rolls in the 28 states that register voters according to party affiliation. The Republicans have lost nearly 344,000 thousand voters in the same states.
