View Full Version : Is this simulated?
I've often wondered & now I'm finally getting around to asking this question; you don't hear them of course but are merchant's distress calls modelled/simulated in the game? For example, you spot an unarmed merchant on the surface & decide to chase them down & destroy them with the deck gun; is the merchant vessel able to alert any nearby but unseen (by you) friendly units? I usually target the lower hull & waterline with the deck gun to ensure the quickest sinking but in reality the U-boat's gun crew would try to destroy their intended victim's radio room & radio antenna mast asap to prevent the victim from sending a distress call.
Thanks...:)

:stare: I hate it...sometimes planes are showing up before im finished with it. Messing with single convoy for hrs suddenly a combat group showed up to replace the downed escorts.:damn:

Is the damage model on the merchants specified enough that shots that are immediately damaging the control room/radio masts may take the chance of a distress call out of action, or is this just simulated as a universal distress call at first contact?
yes
Thanks. I've been playing the game over a year now & there is still quite a bit that I learn from this forum...:)

Distress calls sure are. I downed a fishing boat and 15 minutes later a plane did a fly over from a nearly airfield. I hadn't see any other planes in the air and this guy's bearing was right on the kill spot, not the general area like other fly bys generally are.

Antennae zones are distructable.
But only Subs use those zones.
Radios, both SR and LR, are not distructable.
Again, only Subs use those zones.
Command Deck is distructable but not Command Room.
You don't kill the AI till you kill the main unit.
so I'd bet the Signals go out till the AI is killed.
But since the AI is assigned to the Main unit,
and the Command Deck is assigned as a child?
What would happen if the AI was assigned to the
Command Deck?
Would the ship still function Normally till the
Command Deck was killed?
:hmm:

Good to know one shouldnt linger in the area long....
@Kylania
You sank a fishing boat? Man those guys have a hard enough life as it is they really dont need Uboat captains like you blowing them out of the water just to add to tonnage... :p
I leave those poor little boats alone, I draw the line at tug boats, nothing smaller.
PS: WHen I first ran across a small private sailing boat in GWX off Scotland I laughed as I thought to myself, I wonder what one would think sailing on a nice day and seeing a U-boat cruise by... then I dove and let it go on its merry way. Crazy pleasure boaters, dont they know there's a war going on!

Piggy,
Have you ever thought how maybe those poor fishing boats may
report your position and direction to a big brother, like a
black swan?
I sometimes will submerge and change course when I spot
a non combat country flag.

Bottom line:
If a neutral starts zigzagging and change speed ill take it out if possible. 100% its radoing SSS and its a standing BDU order that allows to open hostilities.
