I was looking for a cheap paperback copy yesterday and came across this. There were 8 copies on E-Bay and this was the cheapest-go figure?

I just found O'kane's Clear the Bridge and Take Her Deep By Admiral I.J. Galantin for $3.ea in a local used bookstore.

I was able to pick up take her deep from the library for a $1 (ex-library)! I'm slowly adding to my collection, but it's tought as my wife won't let me get rid of her horror / true crime books:cry: They take up serious shelf space!

Now she is saying she want's to take over the study and make it her craft room! The only place inside the house that is mine alone! It looks like it's shed time, or pitch a tent!:roll:

It looks like it's shed time, or pitch a tent!:roll:

Ha ha :rotfl: . This is serious though, every man needs a shed. Some of the worlds most ingenious inventions where made in sheds. The Wright brothers invented their flyer in a big shed and John Logie Baird invented his televisor in his attic, which is as we all know nothing more than a shed that sits on top of your house :D.

:hmm: ...you think your wife will like her new shed or tent? ..mine didn't ..but then she got over it...

Yup, that's Admiral Fluckey's handwriting and words there. My copy, signed to my wife's grandfather at the same US Sub Vets convention bears almost the same words. That's an irreplaceable treasure. Mortgage the house!:ahoy:

Damn it, I would have bid on it, already have a nice hardbound copy of Thunder Below but not autographed.

Tom Hanks and Spielberg do great war movies/shows, wish they would focus on US subs in the PTO next, with the budgets and technology they have, could really make a lasting tribute.I can't wait for The Pacific, comes on in March on HBO.

The original post is from Sept. 08. I remember looking after the auction was over(in Sept. of 08) and it went for somewhere in the $20.-$30. range.

It would be really interesting to see a series similar to "Band of Brothers" done with either "Thunder Below" or "Clear the Bridge". I hope it happens. I only had to wait 25 years for "The Lord of the Rings" movies.

Respectfully Submitted;

I agree, I would like to see one made out of Clear the Bridge of Wahoo by O Kane first myself, but would be a tough choice between the three books, all are well authored but think O Kane's books have my vote.Clear The Bridge has elements for a tv series like BOB.From commisioning to all five patrols , being sunk and her survivors being in POW camp and coming home at wars end, could tell the story better in a 10-12 part series instead of a movie.

They finally decided to not overlook the PTO ground war, now need to bring the Silent Service's story to light.

It would seem that Clear the Bridge would lend itself to a series like Band of Brothers quite well. Would make for great TV.
