1.5 years ago I drove myself out here to the high desert from the East coast in 3 days, in a turbo charged comfortable Audi A4. A week from today I reverse the process, back to the East coast, but with quite a bit more baggage. a 17 foot U-Haul, with a trailer behind it carrying my Toyota Tacoma X-cab.

Not going to be quite as fun.....:nope:

I'm debating which route to take. The Southern route served me well coming out, but I'm thinking the Northern for fun. On the other hand, I know the southern route, and what to expect. Not so with the Northern....Anyone have any coast to coast experience? Anyone traveled this northern route?

The only places from the either route I know are Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania. The first two are boring as hell if you have to drive through those. Way to flat, imho, makes you fall asleep while driving.

Without adding much more miles you can stay more southern on the most eastern part of the routes and add Kentucky, the Virginia's and Maryland to your route.

Take the path you never took before. New scenery is always better than going down the same old road. Take the chance, make the adventure. This way you can say you've been in twice as many states.

I was thinking the same thing Simnut. It's 11 miles shorter, too!

I remember when you went to Vegas ... glad your making it out alive.

Bringing all of your loot with you, uh?

Hurricane season, take the north route although I love the southern route better.

Drove San Diego to Houston in 1965 when it was just two lanes in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas ... made it to El Paso in 12 hours and Houston 14 hours later.

Drove many more trips, but only took the northern route once ... love Texas north or south.

Good luck on your trip amigo ... check in when your get settled.

I've driven I-80 as far as Chicago. Through Illinois it was partly toll roads. The rest of the trip is through some of the Great Plains - beautiful country, and a lot of forest as you get further east.

Let me know when you're coming through Salt Lake and we can have lunch.
