ok seriously is it just me?
or does it seem like there are A LOT of players who have downloaded GWX 2.1 out there who have not even bothered to "crack the spine" of the manual.
Someone went though a lot of painstaking effort to creat that masterpiece and it seems to me that there are only a few people out there who are advocates of "reading the fu**ing manual!"
the GWX manual is a tremendous wealth of information. it should be at least parused by a user... but instead it seems like there are like .... 4 people on subsim who have actualy read the thing!
is it just me?! please tell me its me! :rotfl:

Hmmmm. I have read all 644 pages three times sir. As a matter of fact I keep it in the head so I can launch tube 2 and read at the same time. PS, it is a great manual, a tour de force - best I have seen yet. Too bad it cannot be bought in a printed version along with poster sized Charts and Other. Wouldn't that be a treat for diehards.

I don't have it memorized, but I think I have just recently shown that when a question is asked I can point to the right page in fair time.

Was guilty of this until I found the manual and how well organised it is (including link from ToC).
It's now the first place I look before asking questions.

I try and chip away at it...I've only been playing SH3 for about a week or so. It's excellently written though, hats off to those who wrote it.

I read it before I had even downloaded GWX!;) I always read the manual, then I at least can bluff my way round the wife!:yep:
The manual is great. It sure beats most of the manuals for commercial product, if not all.
I heaven't read the whole manual , but I often look at it when I need some info.

What manual :hmm:
Read most if not all of it. I agree that it's one of the best manuals around.  Few game publishers put that amount of effort & detail into their manuals.
As with other mods (Battlefield 2 - FH2 - OPK / Medieval Total War 2 - various) I read it while downloading GWX.
Just like reading through the manual when I buy a game and go home... it's ideal foreplay ;)

Funny, but most of the time when someone decides to post about how difficult the AI is or they decide to whine moan & complain about how they always get detected and sunk, they usually claim to have read the manual.

realistically a person doesnt have to read the ENTIRE manual.
PDF files are searchable in adobe reader.
if a question pops into the mind about GWX, regarding say... "how do the bold decoys work in real life?"...all one must do is click the little binocular symbol in adobe and type "bold"
and like that, every mention of the word "bold" within the GWX manual is available to you instantly.
in 5 - 10 seconds of my own typing and reading i was able to determine the following things i, as a GWX user may not have known
1. Bold is short for "Kobold" a small goblin of german folklor
2. it was a container filled with calcium hydride which reacts with seawater
3. this reaction creates a mass of bubbles that reflects active sonar pings to fool ASDIC into thinking it is detecting a submarine.
it works this way with every topic and almost anything can be answered with a simple 5 second search of a single word.

I think that these people are usually impatient ones who usually don't read pc game user manuals very carefully. So when the AI gives them a thumping they get ticked off & start bitching. GWX is quite a bit more difficult than the stock game but it's far more enjoyable.
I've actually enjoyed going through the manual. I've learned a hell of a lot more about the Allied side (ship development & history) of things than I knew before...

I burnt the manual to cd and took it to Kinko's and had them print it for me with the covers laminated and punched out for 3 ring binder for $35.00. Cheap price I think and a better job than I could have done at home.
At bedtime I trade off rereading it and Iron Coffins.:yep:

My tip for reading the manual - burn it at home onto a disk or a USB key. Take it work. At lunchtime on a Friday when no one is doing anything anyway, or just before an end of month big meeting - hit 'print'. Get ready to run.
Race to the printer and bypass the queue of your colleagues waiting for their print outs, drop to your kness and peer into the out tray wailing... 'Is that my report for the board? They NEED that report, like, yesterday! Oh hi guys also waiting at the printer - I just boiled the kettle in the kitchen, you all might as well make use of it whilst I'm stuck here printing all these countless dull reports'
.. Job done :D A full manual you can read on the train home, in bed, in the bath, on the Motorway one handed. it's cost you nothing, and people at work will be impressed at all the paper spilling out the printer thinking it is work related.
If you are extra clever and have no consience about 'stealing' office supplies, why not get it ringbound or even laminated! Tremendous!
Saves an awful lot of 'ALT-TABBing'

Well, Might be true, might not :smug: If we can get a few more manuals onto printed paper then I'm happy to offer inspiration! Personally, I like to have something I can move around with me and read - my monitor lead is too short, or perhaps my house is too big?
You got a package today? Pleased to hear that

I did read the manual all except for the bug issues and wouldn't you know it I ran into a problem with my sub doing a noise dive to 500 meters and going about 128 knots. So I guess there is a lesson to be learned here. Read the manual!!!! Some of my shipmates here at Subsim suggested I read the manual and wouldn't you know the answer was right there.

Hi!
It is indeed a fantastic manual and I have read it once already.( I have installed GXW 2.1 last week) I miss only appendix C -SH3 Commander options- that was not made. I plan to print it this week in high quality papper. I do not know how to say " THANK YOU" enough to the team that has developed GWX and the manual, except by mentioning it ihn this forum!!! AMAZING WORK:up:
