Having played stock SH3 for too long, I got used to that shooting down the planes is very easy.

Now I'm in my 16th patrol with GWX, and I started to respect the aircrafts. But the last time my WO reported sighting one, I got nostalgic for the old times, and decided to shoot him down. It was a lonely Hudson.

He inflicted some damage each time he passed above me, but I still didn't quit. Only when 2 bombs exploded near my sub, I ordered to dive.
As I was passing 50m, the crew started to report pressure damage :damn:. Panicked, I blow the tanks, and fortunately managed to stop the surfacing at periscope depth. Later I tested my crush depth, and I found I couldn't go bellow 30m. It was time to go home. :nope:

Until this moment, I had a successful patrol, sinking 45000 tones. I was about 300km west of Gibraltar straight, on the way to penetrate it, and go for the Ore carriers on the other side. With 11 torpedoes left on board, but heavily damaged boat, I had no choice but to return home and hopefully find some small unescorted ships on the way.

I'll never learn :damn:

Yesterday, just NW of Lisbon. We spotted an aircraft. Thinking it was Portuguese patrol, I stayed on the surface. Bullets started hitting the boat.

A couple of bombs from the Hudson, straddled the boat while still on th surface. We managed to get away with only light damage.

Phew! It was close.

In my second GWX career (25 missions) I shot down only 5 planes. ..... And I don't want to try my luck another 5 times, ...... nasty experience....... :shifty: . I try to avoid close encounters with them. I fight only when I have to, f.e. , surprised in toilet, or not enough water under keel to order crush dive:nope:

Have u been on TC when your WO spotted it ? :) Have you noticed that while in TC, when WO spots hostile ship/aircraft tells you that target is spotted and TC drops to x1 and option table pops up with actions to select:engage target, maintain current orders or dive to periscope depth. Basically it is a game bug which tells player he made a contact with ENEMY unit. However when neutrals are sighted WO just reports it, but TC will stay the same and no pop up window displayed..

So I always know when I'm making contact with nautrals or hostile units :arrgh!:

That's because it's helium. Helium is stable. It doesn't burn like hydrogen.
