This article is one of the many from the front page of subsim about India's constant growth ...
more and more I keep seeing the movement of arms, supplies, ships, planes and weapons to India from Russia.

Especially submarine related items like this one.

I wonder what is up with this power grab ... Pakistan can't be all that bad for India to be worried about them.

Who does that leave?

Submarine-launched version of BrahMos missile to be tested in India at year-end news
22 August 2008
Moscow: The Indo-Russian BrahMos multi-role supersonic cruise missile is in full production with deliveries being made to Indian Navy and Army. A complete battery of land-based missiles is also in service with the Army, BrahMos Aerospace chief executive, Dr Sivathanu Pillai said here.

Speaking at the MSVS-2008 show in Moscow, he said that the Indo-Russian joint venture is looking at producing 40-50 missiles annually in order to meet Indian requirements.

It is the most increasingly prosperous country.
No surprise it has a increasingly powerful military.

Whenever a Country begins to become economically viable, then axiomatically so does their military. They have something worth protecting. Kudos to India. the entire Indo-China region is unstable and they can add some stability to this if they continue to improve and strengthen their military.

Everybody knows that the future holds conflicts over geographic areas of resources, energy, sweet water. India is preparing.

And I find it strange that always the one country

- that spends more on military than the next 15 countries in the top 20 list of defense spendings together,
- and that spends ten times as much as the second ranked nation or third ranked nation in that list,
- and that just had raised it's defense budget to a new record that even probably surpasses the highest defense budget seen in the cold war

always seem to complain as the first and complains the loudest about other nations outside the NATO rising their defense budgets a little bit.

If you are the wolf, you better are careful to demand others to cut their teeth shorter.

Skybird,
The US spends that much mostly because the government is ripped off by the defense contractors, think tanks, advisory groups, lobbyists, PMCs and whatever else.
They don't get "Bang for Buck" as other countries do.
In some ways, the dreaded US military-industrial complex simply turned into the greatest public subsidy scheme ever devised by mankind.
Except for the F-22, there's not a single field where US defense capability really increased in recent years.
Sure, they have new tools for fighting terrorism and for special forces, but all projects for "real" warfare except the F-22 and F-35 were mostly cancelled.
All spending went into maintaining current force levels and financing the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

India, on the other hand, has now a larger navy than its parent navy, and India operates the world's most modern russian weapons
:rotfl:
Soon they will have SSNs, two real carriers plus one of the worlds strongest air forces and a huge army.
Actually I would rate India higher than China in military capacity because the Indians do not only have good equipment, but they also know how to handle it.
Their army and their navy have british tradition and doctrine, their air force is well trained (they do more flying hours than the USAF, second only to the Israelis) and well equipped.
This indian buildup goes further than deterring Pakistan. India is trying to dominate the region and it seems they will do exactly that.
On the other hand, in a region with Pakistan, Iran and other such states, Indian domination is not so bad for the west.

I didn't see any one complaining or suggesting that it was wrong, only wondering what was going on.

Perhaps Russia is making good deals with arms and training for Inida along with the old watch our back for us in your region plus you know we will stand by you in an emergency too.

Those missiles are being produced in co-op style ... they are in on this weapon as partners to sell to other countries.
